There's one on each exhaust manifold, close to the engine.

Nah ah ah!

cat cat

cat cat

There was a picture that I searched for in the Acosta racing post about their y pipe. They are removed now.

The picture clearly showed 4 cats. The two you can see when you look under the car and two angled down just aft of the headers.

They are there. You just cant see them.

the only cats i know of are the ones that angle down...there are more than that? are you talking about the little things that are attached to the y-pipe? those aren't cats, are they? i thought they were flex things

Okay,

First 2 are noted by the green circles.

second 2 you canot see because they are in front of the first 2 just behind the headers.

Naw, it is just environmentally friendly. The second cat allows the first cat to warm up faster and also traps emissions that pass through the first cat when cold. The O2 sensor is between the two and thus gets readings after the first.

The Z32TT had four - 2 pre-cats and 2 main cats. Many people replaced the pre-cats with downpipes for an extra 10hp. =D They're there for when the car first starts and the ones downstream don't heat up quick enough... you can take 'em out as it's not too important come smog check time as long as the car is warmed up.
