Thumbs up JWT PopCharger Impressions

I had the P.C. installed today. My conditions for keeping it were:

No loss of low end
No loss anywhere else

Simple. Even if I felt the slightest bit of change in response, I'd have removed it immediately and sold it. Thankfully, that isn't the case. I really enjoy hearing the intake. It's not terribly loud, no different than stock below 3K RPMs, but it opens up nice and mean when you're on the pedal. Butt dyno tells me there's some extra power in the upper regions (past 4500RPMs), as the car is more willing to break traction. But that's anecdotal and could be attributed to my shop performing an ECU reflash for me.

In any case, just wanted to share some impressions and alleviate anyone's thoughts of the popcharger as being a power thief. So if you're considering it, I'd recommend it. I got mine from Courtesy Nissan's site, always a trust worthy place to go to.

Wait until summer rolls back around, your impressions will differ greatly.

Yeah, I do have a heatshield, so hopefully it serves its duty. We'll see, though.

The heatshield doesn't do anything. It's sucking up hot air regardless. I've been through so many intakes from the JWT , injen, aem, hks, and i have to say, they all suck for daily driving. Bogs in the summer with a loss of major low end tq (feels like), so i had to take it off.

Drive around for a couple of seasons and put the stock intake back on. I guarantee you that it will feel so much better and throttle response is instantaneous. You are more infatuated with the sound right now since it's new.

I haven't felt a degradation in throttle response, thankfully. And I drove around long enough for the car to really get hot (20+ miles). The car was already completely warmed up when I got into it. I'm usually picky about stuff like this, so I'd have noticed it. But I do agree that come summer time, I'd be singing a different tune.

Yup , but no matter what intake you have your still sucking hot air in the summer. Short rams just suck hotter air for the first few feet as the car gets rolling.

The Pop Charger has been a popular performance accessory for 4 years. Its best attribute is simplicity. Good choice.

uh.... hasn't it been proven time and time again that our 350z stock intakes are one of the most efficient in design? and almost all aftermarket intakes will have more heat soak, cai lose torque down low, and people buy mainly for look and sound? i won't be wasting my money on an intake that's for sure i'd rather get my sound and looks from an aftermarket exhaust

Heatsoak happens even with the stock airbox. I have checked intake temps using cipher. If the car is idiling in traffic the intake temp goes way up. As soon as the car is moving it drops almost immediately. This is the same with stock intake as well as the popcharger.

This has been dicussed so many times. If you have a 2003-2005 get either a popcharger or a 2006 airbox. On 2006 or newer models an aftermarket air intake is only worth it if you like the sound.

at idle any car will show higher than ambient intake temps, because the temp sensor is part of the MAF sensor. - turbo, SC, NA, doesn't matter.

the intakes are best regarding as audible mods, and appearance mods

The heat problem in July and August is next to impossible to solve. Just put a bag of ice on top of the plenum. That will help.
