I'm back to the drawing board on my exhaust mufflers for my custom exhaust. I've narrowed it down to two vibrant 3" units, one is CF and one is SS. I'm not really interested in the looks persay, I just want to know the difference in sound. Just thinking about it, I would think that the CF canister would be quieter but I'm not sure if it really makes a difference.

Does anyone have an idea if there's a difference in sound?

Well I can't speak for the ss canister, but I've heard an HKS carbon wrapped canister just like the pic you have there.

The person had a single 3" custom piping with HKS carbon canister, and boy let me tell you, it was probably the meanest sounding exhaust I've ever heard. It sounded like a racecar. I wish the guy was on the forums, I'd tell him to share sound clips.

BTW, it was loud as **** too. If you're looking for something quiet, you might need some resonators.

as far as sound, i assume you're gonna be running an open dump WG so you prob wont be able to hear the exhaust that much anyways

 

I just talked to a vibrant rep and he said they sounded about the same... hmm....

I'm almost tempted to do the SS cans because you can't see them anyway with my ings lx rear apron.

Its a dual tipped exhaust, with two 14" ultra quiet resonators on it as well. I'm hoping it will at least be reasonable for that size piping. Yes, I'm running an open dumped wastegate but I'm mostly concerned with off-boost and cruising noise.
