Default Cats- which side is Bank 1 ?

I threw a p0420 code after tp install, the code is "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold" I have non-foulers, I think bank 2 is working properly but bank 1 is throwing a code. Which side is it does anyone know?

i think bank one is upper portion of the exhaust sytems and bank two is the lower version of the exhaust. Not sure if each side has their own number.

Hmmm I'm thinking bank 1 is the sensors on the cats and bank 2 is the sensors on the headers. Thanks for your input.

If it goes anything like pistons, bank 1 would be passenger side

According to the FSM, Section EC, Page EC-109, All Bank 1 engine components are on the passenger side.

BTW, I saw a tip on here a couple of years ago on how to get a legal copy of the FSM, from Nissan, for $20. I wonder if that method still works. You have to click about 200 times, but in retrospect, WELL WORTH IT. I could probably find it if there's enough interest.

Looks like it still works. For $19.99 you get a 24hr subscription to access all Nissan downloadable material, including the service and owner's manuals. I spent about 3 hours, and wore out my wrist, but I got it.

I think someone has posted the FSM for all the years, at least it is there on g35driver... I got my FSM off ebay on a CD for $20 shipped.

As above image indicates (very nicely I might add):

Bank 1 = Passenger side.
Bank 2 = Driver side.

- on the USA VQ platform.

bank designation has nothing to do with the pre-cat vs post-cat O2 sensor position.

Interestingly my friend with a Lexus GS 300 got a CEL for his heater circuit on the O2 sensor on bank 1.

I assume bank 1 would be the same on a lexus?

The even and odd number banks I think are a universal concept on cars... I know the Z and Mustangs definitely follow that approach anyway...

Also, if i remember correctly this link has free downloads of the Z service manuals or some sort of manuals anyway... too lazy to unzip them and see what they are.

I believe Ford has it reversed? Not 100% sure, but I read that somewhere... It is also unclear to me if the designation changes between LHD and RHD vehicles.

What does Ford and RHD vehicles have to do with this question? I personally couldn't care less, but if I HAD to know, it would take a few minutes of SEARCHING one of those forums for the answer.
