Default NISMO sellng a cam and intake soon....

Jeff of performance Nissan just mentioned NISMO will offer intake and a cam. Does anyone know specifics on these items and their performance gains? See quote below of his post...Jeff

This stage is a little on the weak side, just intake, exhaust, shift *****, lic frames, stabilizer bars, spring/shocks, floor mats, headers, cams, brake pads, flywheel, and a power steering cooler. As always we offer the Forum members 25% off on parts, but with Nismo the mark up to the dealers sucks. So we can only offer between 10% and 20%. Sorry. "

I believe the 350z has Four Cams, I you replace one it's best to replace all so that 20-35 hp per cam, i don't think the cam would be to wild so 20-35 hp per cam sounds bout right

You mean 20-35 for all four COMBINED would equal this...

Not PER cam.

<cough> and we only have two!

This photo of an LT1 shows they only have one... then assume we'd add one more for the DOHC setup!

I'm not totally sure about this... but it will not be 35 hp per cam and I thought there were only 2 cams.

Also, higher lift or longer duration cams affect the idle and low rpm drivability significantly depending on how agressive the grind actually is. So this will not be a mod for everyone. This being NISMO, I'm sure they won't put out cams so agressive that you'll see a painfully lumpy idle, but I'm sure there will be a noticable difference.

Furthermore, cams are shown to produce really significant gains when teamed up with higher compression pistons and gaskets or FI. While it's possible to see 35 hp from cams on a stock engine, I think the better estimate would be around 15-20. With HC or FI, who knows?

Just my 0.02. Jeff, I think this would be a good mod for you since you've pretty much got the turbo/sc already blueprinted in your future.

On each cylinder head, that makes a total of four on the V6

I thought DOHC was 2 cam per head and SOHC was 1 cam per head
And a v6 has 2 heads

I never really looked at it that way. But I thought the engine had one head and two banks. There may be an intake and an exhaust cam for each bank but I wouldn't think so. And if there is, then that would be a costly mod. DOHC camshafts for a honda cost over a grand! And that is definitely for 2.

I hope the cam nets good hp and tq cause the LS1 aftermarket cam net anywhere from 20hp to 80hp depending on how extreme the cam is

Yea I hope so too, but i think it'll be on the low end of that. And you are right, there are 4 cams in the engine, so I'm sure most people won't be happy with the Nismo prices. Maybe they are just upgrading the intake cams for stage 1? Who knows.

Default what is...

I understand the camshaft and cam gears and such, but when you guys talk about changing the cams, specifically what part are you talking about?

does someone have a picture of what it is?

thanks for your time
