help! rasp
i have topspeed exhaust , stock y pipe and i just put on resonated top speed test pipes.. it sounded good FOR A good week until now.. it sounds raspy *** helll passing 3000rpm..
do u think it is the y pipe?? if it was why would it sound good for a while until now? =[
i even removed the test pipes and looked at them closer and no cracks at all.. im guessing i need an aftermarket y pipe right?
thanks for the good info

i found that with a stock y pipe with my hi flows i had this annoying rasp type sound at a certain RPM. THen on a lift it was apparnt that with the diamiter of the hi flows the amount of air actually as almost being bogged by that flat thin y pipe. Trust me once you get a exhaust that will go. I have the same issue soon to be addressed.
But then again with test pipes there is a level of rasp associated with it, thats why i got hi flows but in essense that stock y pipe for sure is the cause of the sound plus maybey resonsance from the none resondted test pipes.
WHen you chose test pipes that are none resonated you have welcomed your self to rasp
get resonated or hi flow next time or deal with the POWA lmao

so its not a cat back because if it was you would have no Y pipe unless its not a true dual exhaust. In anycase topspeed has never been known for a borla exhaust sound. Just curious if you seeked out exhaust sounds with different things installed. Like that exhaust and an intake, or that exhaust and a downpipe. But a test pipe does allow for more air it it might be more turbulant.
The material in your Res. test pipes has cracked apart. The heat soak over the last couple days might have caused it to crack. You can pull off bad res. test pipes and shake them and it sounds like it is full of little part rattling around. Some companys use materials that are OK and might fail so if 1 out of 100 will crack they are OK with it because it is cheap to make.
The cheap resonated test pipe resonators are glass packed.
The glass in your resonators was probably pulverized and blown out. The resonators are effectively gone.

Since something changed over time, it cannot be a design issue. It has to be a cracked pipe or the material in the test pipes getting packed down/blown out. I seriously doubt you cracked an OEM y-pipe before an aftermarket set of test pipes. Are the flex sections intact?
