i did it myself...prob took about 10-15 hours on jack stands....hardest part is just getting to some of the header bolts and putting enough force on them to break them...and get ready for your hands and arms to be allll cut up

if you are mechanically inclined, shouldn't be too hard. If you are use to doing simple bolt ons like exhaust and intake, this isn't for you. This mod is one of those things where you will get frustrated with. You would want to quit half way but know you've gone to far to just stop. It's not too bad though. Just make sure you get some nice headers because it's not worth doing the work twice.

Can anyone tell me if it would be any easier to install headers with the transmission out?

I installed mine with help and they were a pain, not sure i'd do it again.

I can't see how that would even affect it. Yeah it kinda crowds up the place but it seems like a huge waste of time IMHO. If you are going to spend that much time I would think you should just pull the motor + tranny together. Should be able to put the headers on in 15 minutes then.

the tranny has never gotten in the way in the installation so i don't see how it would help at all.

Fixed.

I don't see how the tranny is in the way of anything.

i feel the best way is taking off the coolant stuff that is in the way up top. It took me a little over 2 hours which is pretty damn fast if you ask me. This was on a lift as well too though.

Taking off the radiator could be beneficial. Definatly would give you more room if it something your experienced at.

If you dont have every extension tool and swivle head then i wouldn't attempt it. It is a real pain in the *** to reach the bolts ESPECIALLY removing the heat sheilds and stock headers. Not to mention removing the steering shaft and undoing the suspension so you can squeeze up in there. Have fun... personally i would pay to have it done, but people do it in their garage so dont let me stop you. Get the bandaids out.

I don't see how taking the radiator out would help. Sorry, just asking for your reasoning.

i work at a Dodge dealer and one of my techs and i did it after
work one day, took about 7hrs on a lift, i think it could have been
faster if he had a different assortment of tools, seemed like everything
he had was too long to work with, did not lift engine, did not move trans
just moved compressor out of way, steering shaft, air intake tube, strut
bar, and pulled cats out of the way. I installed strup headers which
supposedly are made with correct bends to allow easier install, i could
not imagine how bad crawfords must be to put on.

Just curious because I need to replace my clutch and was considering putting in some better quality headers if it would be easier with the trans out. If no benefit then I'll leave what I got.
