i was thinking about buying a single exit exhaust for my track days
because i wanted to save some weight over my fujitsubo legalis-r
and wanted some more sound, but then was thinking that may not be
cost feasible, i heard some peope just un-bolt the axle back and run
car that way but seems kinda ghetto(too loud and heat under bumper
problems, fumes etc..) so i was thinking i could unbolt that and install
a section of stainless pipe of same diameter out to left bumper opening
with a larger tip on the end so it would look normal-still have the
fuji resonator in the mid-pipe to reduce sound a little so it would not be
crazy loud and be fairly cheap to do
has anyone tried this before? does any company offer something like this
i could purchase?

how much weight do you think you'll save by doing this? And better question, what do you think saving maybe 25 lbs of weight from your car is going to do performance wise, relative to the looks and stares you'll get from others wondering why such a nice car sounds like such crap?

heres my problem, i like the single exit exhaust, my wife does not.
i want some more sound for track days, i know 25lbs is not much
but each time you drop weight it still adds up, i always take out spare
tire at each event as well as the carpeted rear trunk mat(not the skinny
stock one but the upgraded thick one that weighs like 10 lbs)i was
thinking about making a single exhaust(buying HKS carbon ti canister
and getting straight pipe w/o resonator)but was not sure how to make
flanges that would fit my fuji y-pipe so i could unbolt it easily and trade
from the fuji exhaust for daily driving to the custom one for track days.

The idea is reminiscent of cut-outs that we have discussed several times.
And “track” means what? Drag racing? Maybe but you have bumped yourself out of any stock class.
Autocross? Again there goes BSP without an exhaust.
And open road racing? Just a hunch but I don't think you are set up for SCCA road racing.
The big problem is tuning. How do you tune the car? With or without the exhaust?

so no test pipes, have 06 z and even with simulators everyone says
check engine light still comes on and gets like 10mpg-right now
without computer tuning i am still getting 22-23mpg for daily driving
and about 11-12mpg when on road course
i was just thinking it would be simple because there is like two bolts and
two hangers to pull off and could bolt up my pipe idea-this is why i
asked the question just wanted to get some feedback if this would
work or not, looks like the overall answer is no

racing, go to drag strip for fun-not for points or money(not fast enough for
that)usually go on test and tune nights 3-5 times a year with friends
about 8 auto-x events a year for fun, do not go for points, just go for
fun and to improve my driving skills
2-3 track days a year, may try a time trial event just to see how i do
once all my mods are finished-getting closer on that
i am going to get computer done this summer, i figure switching from
fuji legalis r exhaust to a true single like jic or apexi will not be a huge
difference so if it get it dyno'd and tuned with one or the other it cannot
be any worse than the fat air/fuel ratio i am running now, getting black
**** on back bumper now- i am sure any computer improvements will
be a plus

I'm not even thinking you are going to save 25 lbs to be honest...it was a random guess. I think the actual difference would be less
seems to me the money you would spend on even making something up using a universal HKS muffler would be much better spent towards a utec and a tune

i could have lived with a check engine light, my wife probably would not
though
and judging by your quote, you are just trying to be funny, no reason to
get cocky, we are all just having friendly discussions regarding a car we

the more you lighten up the rear the more squirmy it gets, you will have to compensate that some how, are you prepared for that?
Also, I dont know how your current exhaust is set up but maybe just make a pipe with a flange welded on so u can bolt and unbolt it as needed. But do you have a utec or something to help tune for less back pressure? I drove my car around for a couple of days before I got my new exhaust with my midpipe cut so it would dump out just under the stock muffler system (lol it hung down a little so no caught fumes, couldnt see it unless from behind while I was going over a hill or something.) Sounded really good! lost a little torque though, so a tune is definitely in order.
Hope that helps.

.crazy loud, can't imagine how loud it would be with headers and test pipes
i do not know if it like the canister shape on topspeed and rsr ex-mag
seems kind of ricey, but here i am saying i like single exit canisters
guess it all depends on personal preference

275's in rear, sticks pretty good and if it steps out i know how to control
it-when driving fast in my car it still feels slow because i use to do track
days with my motorcycle and was able to achieve a lot higher speeds
in similar cornering conditions

NEW IDEA INSTEAD....
what if i had a pipe made in place of my mid-pipe that had no
resonator-one with the same length and diameter and correct flanges
as my fuji one just without resonator-that way it would not be as ghetto
as my original idea but would increase the exhaust note for track days
and could easily switch back to original one for daily driving-what does
everyone think-look forward to some responses
