No, you only have to worry if the filter itself is completely submerged in water. This will induce hydrolock. Should worry about it to much unless you live in an area prone to flashfloods. Bypass valve is not available for Injen- only AEM.

don't drive through rivers or lakes and you'll be fine. I've had CAI's on a dropped integra and prelude for years, never a problem with water.

Heavy rain is not a problem- had the Injen CAI on my Celica 3 years and have driven through heavy rain a few times with the Z. Puddles should only be a problem if they're deep enough to submerge the filter.

as long as you dont SUBMERGE the filter youre fine, if you stop in the middle of a 1-2' deep pudddle, yeha you'll have problems, otherwise youre fine. heavy rain is not an issue. Ive had a CAI on all my cars in the carolinas and we get some HEAVY rains ie 3-4" in an hour. and no problems

Something about the way the filter is positioned right down there in front of the bumper makes me not want to get one.
Even if it doesn't get submerged, won't it still get soaked with water and covered in road grime? Seems that after a while the filter won't be able to breath very well.

If your so worried about it dont get one! I grant you that I had the same concerns before i got mine but after 5 months of having it Ive become used to it. I love mine, plus a cai filter works better once it gets a little dirty. Your supposed to clean them every 15000 miles but if your real worried just pull it out and clean it early. My biggest concern is with where the aem intake is mounted. It doesnt look like the best positioning to get a steady flow of cold air imo.

Driving in rain and through puddles won't be a problem. Just don't try to cross a river or something like that and you'll be fine. We've got'em in stock when you want one.

Hmmmm, I have always been skeptical about intakes for the Z. The stock airbox already pulls "cold" air from outside the engine bay, which is the purpose of a "cold air intake". The only advantage I see is the better filter (cone & high flow, like K&N), and the fact that it is in front of the grill. There is sufficient airflow into the stock airbox already

But, there's proof that it makes a few poneys, still not sure if worth $250! for a pipe & filter!

I will put my $250 in the Borla fund for now

BACK TO THE SUBJECT:

I had an intake in my old 300zx, which was mounted very low in front of the car. I had it on for about 2 yrs, drove through heavy rain & some puddles (not 1 or 2' puddles) & never had any problems with it.

I guess if you don't mind cleaning your filter once in a while, then I would definitely get one
