Default Y-pipe comparison opinion JIC vs. Nismo

I have two Zs both the 06 Rev-Up and the 03 DE. I had the complete Nismo catback exhaust and when I installed the Berk HFC decided to change to the JIC Y-pipes. Before changing I thought the HFC really woke up the Nismo exhaust and I really like the sound and what seems like better faster delivery of power.. After question I got replys that the character, volume and performance. The performance mind you is totally subjective even more than character and volume. The volume on the Nismo Exhaust is louder than the JIC and the exhaust has a deep rumbles. The JIC pipe on the Nismo exhaust was quieter and has an almost electric quality to it.Not as zippy as an RX-8 by any means but has that same type of character. It also seemed to give the car less grunt in low RPMs than the Nismo but maybe even more smoothe than the stock exhaust on the Rev-Up. I like the Berk HFC and complete Nismo ehaust better so I changed it back.

I then decided to put JIC y-pipe on the stock exhaust of my DE. I figured there would be no difference in sound, character or volume for my set up. Again I was wrong. I haven't pushed the set up yet like I did the JIC conbined with the Nismobut already I noticed a difference. The car revs faster or definitely seems to do so. It is actually quieter just like it did the Nismo, but in this case the sound is much better than the ragged sometimes rough sound of the DE. The car seems to be stronger at higher rpms as well but did not seem to lose anything down low like it seemed when it was conbined with the Nismo. Not sure really how to explain it but the car just feels better than it did stock.

I have metallic cats to install with this and will do this soon. I am already searching for a mid pipe and muffler section. I have a friend with the Top speed and it sounds great but the DE is my daily driver and it may be a little loud to be driving to the office. I would like to keep the single to two exit design, about the same volume and tone as Nismo with HFC or maybe even a little louder emphasis on little louder. I don't care that it have the same charaxter as Nismo. Oh yeah cheaper is better as long as its a real brand. Any help will be appreciated if you want to point me in a direction. This is going to be my main purpose at ZdayZ hearing the different exhaust.

Thanks for reading,
Marcus

I will look into it especially if I can purchase without the y-pipe. As long as it is not much louder than my Nismo with HFC and not to terribly concerned with amount of volume. Don't want it to quiet either, but that should not be a problem with the HFCs that will be on the upcoming system as well. So are you selling your exhaust and if so how much?

@sunset: if i catched your text right, you have installed the JIC y-pipe and the rest of the exhaust stayed stock ... where there no problems because of different diameters and if yes, how did you solve them?!

thanks!

No problems. The y-pipe gasket and the flanges fit flush without regard to the pipe diameters.

thinking of changing to ceramics and/or some other brand of cats

*Dont get me wrong, the sound is amazing, and i love it, but the RASP sounds silly and is pissing me off...

Don't know if it makes a difference but I have ceramic Berks on my ZR and have not put the metallic HFCs on the Coupe yet. I have no rasp at all on my ZR with Ceramic Berks and Nismo. As a matter of fact I love the sound the throttle response and what feels like more torque. I am hoping Metallic Cats sound as good but will have bastardized system of pieces by the time its finished.

im guessing there will be more power with the metallics but you'll have rasp (annoying) in the higher rpms...

At this point I am either going to go with the Stillen y-back or the Magnaflow. So I guess I will see. If its bothering you that bad sell the metallics and get a set of ceramics. You should not lose to much.
