Default Should I go Tanabe or Nismo?

hi!

i've done the search, but i didn't find the right answer ... i cannot decide between following setups for my VQ35HR:

nismo catback (with y-pipe) or
tanabe medalion touring + tanabe y-pipe

the nismo costs less (about 840 with y-pipe) and the tanabe (about 880 + 400 for the y-pipe) ...

so can you help me ...

greetz from austria

What are your goals? Sound? Performance?

Based on sound alone it's simple. The Tanabe sounds much better than the Nismo. Of course this is a personal preference. Would you buy it just because someone on the internet told you to?

Based on performance, neither one is very impressive.

Haha, I have 4 exhausts in Mind
Nismo
Tanabe Hyper + Tanabe Y-Pipe (that's the 95 DB right?)
HKS
Bassani

Bassani seems to be winning, but I can't find a site I trust that sells it.

I'd go with a Tanabe.

I know the hyper medallion is a little louder than the touring medallion, but otherwise, do they have the same tone? And does one maybe have a deeper sound than the other?

From all the threads that I have read about the tanabe, it seems to be louder than the nismo and deeper. Most say that if you like the VQ sound and want it louder, get the tanabe.

I recommend that you:

a. Set a budget.
b. Decide what configuration is best for you. Single. Dual. One or two mufflers.
c. Listen before buying.

Tanabe by far is the best sounding. If it was only based on sound I would be getting tanabe because I've used it on other cars.. However on a v6 dual exhaust the sound isn't enough.. Which is why I'm going for a true dual setup with fast intentions. A tanabe with y-pipe is only 100-200 cheaper then it. So why not go for the performace with amazing sound. And the vq sound is there.

@get_Zwole:
saw it here: http://www.thenismoshop.com/ikorb.ph...product_id=187

@rest:
my budget is about 2000 dollars without shipping, but if i get it for less, why not ;-) ...

next my preferences: first stands performance (gains and less weight) and than sound (here is the problem, because in austria we are restricted in db) ... and btw, i will stay N/A and i don't like the looking of single exhausts like tanabe ultra medalion ...

thanks!

thomas

PS: excuse my bad english

How is the loudness of the nismo compared to the HKS? I don't have many Z's in my area so I don't have the chance to hear them in person. I read online clips don't do the exhausts justice.

I do realize its about tanabe or nismo but didn't want to start a new thread and get flamed lol. Thanks.

tru that just get test pipes. Then decide by which one sounds best to you. Its gonna be within 2 to 3 hp prob between whichever you choose so its almost negligable thats why most people say just get the one that sounds best to you.
