we can all speculate what it is but the best thing to do is just get under there and have someone rev it for you, pin point the sound and go from there. from the video is sounds maybe like a leak. good luck.

I already tried that..but the sound is only present when the car is moving...im almost sure that the problem is that the exhaust is touching the brace and the downrev vibration cause that sound

yea I'm a tech at llexus and I've had some of the techs look under the car-they say its coming from the resonator on the x pipe of the catback..the weird thing is it happened as soon I installed the exhaust!

From that youtube video I can tell you that I have that same noise with the Berk Test Pipes. I just figured it was normal. Didn't really care too much for it.

Yesterday afternoon while heading home from work I noticed a new sound. When I'm around 3k+ and downshifting I get this really bad rattle. I know it's not rasp because eventhough the rasp is present around that range area I've never had this new sound. It almost sound like metal to metal vibrating together. I have no idea what it is. I have the Tanabe Hyper Medallion with the Tanabe Y-Pipe. I'm guessing it might be the heat shield vibrating with the test pipes but I wonder why it didn't do it before. I mean it vibrates to the point that I can actually feel it while I have my hand on the shifter. Anyone else have or had this problem?

That's not rasp...

Rasp is a tin-like sound that happens on WOT. If your exhaust is raspy enough, like some civics, you won't even need to go WOT to hear the rasp.

The hissing sound that happens as the revs climbs down is perfectly normal.

the sound is not normal. I installed TiTek test pipes on my z last night. I have a Borla TD exhaust and around 2.5k - 3k I heard the "metal on metal" noise as well. This is coming from you H-pipe. Before the test pipes were installed, the sound was BARELY noticable. After the test pipes were installed, because of the increased airflow, the sound becomes more noticable. This is not my opinion, this is a fact. I was 2 inches from the exhaust while the car was being revved and that is where it is coming from. My recommendation is to purchase the magnaflow x-pipe/muffler to remove this sound. I currently am waiting on it to be installed on my car. Whenever it is finished, I will record the sound under the car at 3k and you will be able to hear the difference.

I just installed resonated TPs on a stock catback and have same exact sound. It sounds like metal to metal but the exhaust is not touching/rubbing anything. The only thing I did was swap out the cats for TPs. It makes the noise mostly when I let off the gas. At neatral throttle it's not there so it must be something when the exhaust twists because of the engine load. Makes the same noise at WOT and the intensity does not change as revs climb which rules out a leak.

Anyone get this figured out yet?

i just installed mine and i have the exact same thing. I thought it was a exhaust leak, but it only happens under load. I wish I knew what it was, but it sounds like you have a cheap *** car.

i read somewhere on this forum that the hissing noise when you let off the gas is the heat shield vibrating on the y-pipe as for the rasp you will hear it at WOT with non-resonated test pipes so people like it others hate it... my car does the same thing but neither the hissing or the rasp bother me so i never looked into it

It's not the hissing. It sounds almost like electric sparks. Imagine when you test a spark plug by placing it ona grounded spot and cranking the engine. That's what it sounds like.

I'll be removing the heatshield around the y-pipe to see if it makes a difference but I don't see how unless the test pipes mount differently than the cats and twist the y-pipe at some point.

well I might of found my funny sound, when i was putting the non-foulers in, I used the non-fouler washers that came in the pack. I took them off today and it looks like only half of the washer got crushed. The way they mate up with bung didnt look like it wasnt exactly quite right. So we will see.

The hissing noise is not coming from the heat shield.

I am unsure about this, but someone told me it is coming from the flex sections on the y-pipe. Something about it expanding and contracting during acceleration and deceleration.
