CAI squeek. Anyone know why???
Just put the AEM CAI kit on my car today. Definitely throatier than stock... very nice combo with the Borla True Dual.
Install took a little more than 2 hours as I BSed with a buddy of mine.
I have one question, though, since I have never installed a CAI before.
With the CAI in, when I accelerate hard, there is a momentary "squeek" from the engine compartment. This doesn't happen under normal acceleration, just when the motor changes from low to higher revs at a rapid rate.
We parked the car, put it in neutral and blipped the trottle a couple times and it definitely seems to be coming from the upper portion of CAI intake (past the MAF sensor). Is this normal? Because of the increased airflow suddenly traveling through the pipe?
Someone care to explain what is happening?
It's not something terribly bothersome, but if there is something wrong I want to get it corrected.

I think you're hearing the metal flapping thing slam to the open position. I don't know the name for it, but it was obvious when you removed the stock air intake. It's a piece of metal in a circle with a rod going through the middle. When you floor the car it opens up all the way and makes a strange noise.
I have a loud Sucking noise From my AEM CAI but no "Squeak" I guess it could be your TB opening, but more than likely it's the hi pitched sucking sound of the air being sucked into the engine. I love that sound
It's NORMAl. I have heard numerous cars that have aftermarket intakes (short ram and cold air), they all make that sort of wooshing/whining noise. Don't be worried, be happy you have it.
Thanks everyone!
I knew I had done the install right so I wasn't too worried. Just wanted to be sure. Guess folks will here me "squeeking" around Charlotte a lot in the near future!
An additional note on performance, the difference in sound is most notable at high revs. Don't know if this translates into much more power, but the 4500+ range definitely has much more growl to it.
