Default Stalling and bad idle after PopCharger install

Installed short ram intake couple of days ago and noticed bad idle while sitting in traffic and stalling after driving and switching to neutral.

Sounds like some people have similar issues, any way to resolve/improve the situation?

Thanks

Art

Sorry fellas, maybe I wasn't clear, I installed intake filter not a spacer. Didn't see any vacume lines going to the Airbox.

I guess my question is if the ECU must be re-flashed in order for car to run properly? Or if ECU simply "learns" the new flow after certain time.

LOL no you don't need to reflash your ECU for an intake. Make sure you pluged the MAF in correctly, make sure that the Z tube is hooked and clamped tightly to the butterfly and the filter as well..

Double checked and it's tight as a virgin. Disconnected the battery for 30 sec, went for a drive and still does the same thing

Is the MAF plugged in? Facing the right direction?

Checked the Z tube, mine is '05 model and it has no vaccume lines attached to it. MAF is definitely plugged in and facing the right direction

Strange, who'd figure it'd act like this, had an Injen CAI on my other Z and no issues what so ever, maybe POP charger is too free flowing

Will try to run just open MAF at the track tomorrow, see how it goes than.

um, you go ahead and do that then report how bad the MAF got messed up. the filter is there for a reason, and that is to prevent debris form getting to the MAF. so go ahead and run a open MAF

you didn't soak the filter with oil, did you? pull the filters off and see how she runs.

Well I won't be installing any short ram intakes on my other Zs.

Went to the track and ran two runs side by side both at 14.4@97 and 2.2 60' in bone stock Z and short ram. Than 10min later installed stock Airbox and stock filter back and went for a third run and did 14.09@99.73 and 2.147 60'.

Better 60', obviously contributed to better time, however expected at least about the same time with stock intake. Track closed down before I could do a 13.9 run.

Another thing I noticed with short ram intake the engine has more vibration on higher RPM and milage monitor never gets over 14mpg in the city, and with OEM intake I got well over 17mpg and smother top end.

Buddy told me it might be slower but I didn't believe him, now I know.

Did you have any kind of heat shield on the intake?

An unshielded intake will lose 10-15 HP.

No shield, wow that much, if that's the case than it would explain less power, would hot air cause bad idle too?

It shouldn't but if its giving you a bad idle, aparently the answer is yes.

30 seconds won't do anything. I'd have to check the FSM but if I recall disconnect for 24 hours clears all diagnostics. Car holds onto a lot of info such as volume of air at idle, throttle pedal fully depressed, same fully released, etc.

Check the Top 100 Questions thread - there's at least one like this in there.
