Default Has any problem araise from CAT bypass Pipe yet?

I know alot of people have used test pipe with flying color result (performance wise)

Had anyone put a good amount of miles on the car with the test pipe to say for sure that the test pipe won't throw a check engine light on and put the car in limp mode? I am 1 step away from purchasing these. Law where I live is if you car don't throw out black smoke, you are pretty much legal. And since only 2 of the 4 cat is gone, it isn't like the car is going to start throwing out black smoke like a desiel engine.

Also as food for thought. Would test pipe still allow a car to pass the emission test? I don't mean the visual inspection, but the actual test. There are still 2 cat on the car, so they are there for a reason. The next 2 cat makes the car cleaner I assume.

Anyone can throw me some info on these?

Dwnshift has been racing catless for a long long time. He has said that the only time a CEL is thrown is if the car sits at idle for an abnormally long time, like 20 minutes or so. Even if it does, big deal. Find someone with a laptop and an OBDII cable ($79 from JC Whitney people!) and clear the codes. No harm no foul.

As far as emissions, I'm sure it would still pass a standing emissions test, however not sure about the rolling test. I never had one done. Every car I've had since that went into effect has been AWD. But, the install time start to finish is about 2 hours. On inspection day, pop em back in.

Yea, there is no rolling test there...there isn't even a Dyno around Macau...so forget getting supercharger and tunning it. Not to mention you don't emission test the car until the car is TEN YEARS OLD.

Hum...that worry me...20 minute in idle huh? So it can still throw out an engine light right? I mean this car is Jap version, so I don't even know if it have OBDII...But I guess I can always have Nissan clear the code...shouldn't be too expensive.

But it still sounds like a worthwhile mod...it is ALOT louder right? I am missing that loud exhaust note right now...The veilside exhaust burn in and it is quiet now...when I first got it, all hell break loose when you gun that car.

It's noticably louder. I have no problems except for a vibration in the flex part of the stock y-pipe. Other than that it's great.

We came to the consensus yesterday that the vibration is a result of either the increased flow or the audible difference. Doesn't matter. Y-pipe gone soon

Darn, I can't get rid of my Y-pipe because the Veilside Exhaust is connected at the Y-pipe.

Hum...would changing the Y-pipe make any difference....it is pretty expansive...$400+ for it.

Are you sure it is a flexing noise from the Y-pipe? Do you have the stock exhaust on? My Veilside exhaust had a problem from it htting against the stock cross brace...a little header wrap fix that problem though.

I think neither the test pipe or the cat have any flex point in them, the cat however got some support though...I wonder if the Test pipe need soemthing to attach to the stock bracing point also.

The Stock Y pipe have some kind of insulator (to reduce the heat) that is the vibration in the flex part of the stock y-pipe, my brother remove it and the car runs better than ever!

P.S. his gonna put the Borla soon... if your gonna stick with the stock Y pipe you may put some othe type of "Insulation" for the heat!

Webcarconnection,

Was your brother having the same rattle problem?

I think I am going to go with a different y-pipe and exhaust. I found the Top Secret y-pipe and exhaust for $2000 so I may do that. Or j's350z offered to get one for me, but I haven't heard back from him yet.

Fujibousu (sp) have a Y-pipe for sale, and I think I actually like that better then the Top secret version. The Top Secret version looks better, just 2 bend and join at the end of the Y-pipe.

But the the Fujibousu version have flex point and everything else, looks much better as a road car parts then a race car parts.

Hum...I may have to take a look at that Y-pipe huh? Do you have a photo of where the rattle is, and what did you took off to get rid of the rattle?

Default Danny,

I spoke to Rob last night and he is going to bang out a y-pipe for you. I should have it in a week and a half. I will touch base with you later today. Anyone else who wants one, email me and I will send you a quote, they are alot cheaper than the top secret and just as nice!

I don't think a single state will pass a car with no cats on it. When you're idling with the windows open and get a breeze you can smell the exhaust gases. And it's powerful.

So even with a resonated test pipe that doesn't have any raspiness/rattle, you'll still fail emissions .
