Default Cat Bypass Pipes...Questions

I'm considering purchasing these pipes and I just have a couple quick questions.

1. What manufacturers do you recommend and where can I get them the cheapest and fastest?

I have a need for instant gratification...I can't wait a month.

2. I have the stock exhaust with the resonator still in place. How much louder will this make my car? Will it have a similar tone? Some were talking about raspiness with the resonator out.

I did search for my answers, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Probably right in front of my face.

Thanks in advance!!!

Mike

It will definitely change the sound of your car without cat pipes. It will be louder and throttle response will be a bit quicker. Accelleration at higher RPM's will feel more linear.

LSDUNIQUE here on my350Z.com makes them and sells for around $210.

He accidentally shipped me a second one instead of my camber arms and traction rods today so if he would like, I'll send you this one if you want to buy one and he plans on selling this one or its not spoken for already.

I'm from KC so where ever you are, it'll be there by Wednesday if all goes well and you want it.

Nice....

I found a couple threads with pics with these pipes...they look nice and they seem to be going over well. I'm interested and would like to purchase them it makes things simpler...if not I can go through normal channels. Let me know if its a go.

I'm in Massachusetts.

Thanks!

I would def reccomend the cat pipes by lsdunique. I ordered some and they are constructed very well. I put them in myself on my back in my garage. It took me some time because I have the sears kids set of tools and it took more creativity as I lacked some of the tools I needed. Like a longer wrench. Nevermind. Anyways, on the 8th I am getting springs and sways put in so while it is up on the lift I will take some pic of the pipes.
The sound is louder. I think that it sounds ok being a V6. I am def used to a V8 but thats ok. I would recommend an aftermarket exhaust setup eventually though as the stock system is obviously tuned to deal with the frequencies associated with cats installed. Get them!

Default Cat By-Pass...

I've heard lots of conversation about ease of install, and the change in sound, but nobody has discussed the sensors mounted in the cat. I understand the cat by-pass tubes have a threaded nut to install the factory sensors, but I know from past experence that these sensors monitor the gases (ie: emissions, o2, ect.). If there is some change in the exhaust gases the onboard computer will automaticly change the gas mixture, timing, ect. I just sold my 98 GT Mustang to buy the Z (yes, I switched teams) and when I removed the cats from my Stang, I had to buy what was called a "MIL Elimitator" to prevent the computer from "changing" and the check engine light from comming on. Has anyone had this experence? Looking for your input...

I am sure the ECU is adjusting accordingly as far as AF ratio goes but the CEL does not come on for whatever reason. I had MIL's for my 01 Z28 and am happy that the Z test pipes are screw on mods. No electrical work required.

I've had my car running with only the resonator, and now after installing the cat pipes it's a tad tooooo loud lol. I will now be forced to go w/ the borla duals setup simply cause I need a muffler bad. I can imagine the no cats option definately "enhancing" the stock exhausts sound, much less any other exhaust sound. Injen SES owners beware, if your vehicle is already loud w/ that exhaust, it will definately get MUCH louder w/ cats. My car is basically running around open headers now, yikes, need the borla b4 cops ticket me!

I'm having a pretty bad vibration problem with the cat pipes installed. It seems to be the Y-pipe heat shield or some other part in there, but the exhaust sounds like as s right now. I'll update you guys when I change out the y-pipe.

If you are reffering to the slightly blat blat sound at certain RPMs I am sure that it is because our factory exhaust is tuned with the cats in mind for sound, etc. Now I def need to get an aftermarket exhaust system to make this sound even better if not for some more power...

Where did you get them and how much were they?

{edit} Nevermind, I found the post that says how much they are.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with this "LSDUNIQUE" guy??? I've sent him three messages and still no response. I would like to think that he is just keeping very busy filling all his orders, but frankly this is starting to scare me. I dont think I want to do business with somebody I have to constantly chase down. Am I wrong here? Does anyone have this cat's number, or maybe a direct e-mail address?? Thanks for you input...

For right now you have to be patient with him. He is apparently working on a show car or something. Also, he makes headers, suspension components and will be making an intake manifold along with the test pipes for the Z. His work is of high quality and I will most likely purchase all his stuff. But right now he is out of pocket. Sorry.

so far i love the cat pipes. I dont' think it makes it terribly loud, but the tingy-ness that it adds from 3000-4000 rpm's i don't care for. Almost sounds like a civic with a fart can to me.

But i'm also the only one here that's gotten a check engine light after the install. But it's weird cause it's been poping off on the weekends when i don't drive the car all week and then on Sunday's it pop's back on. who knows.

This too is my only complaint about the cat-pipes. When I am at WOT, the sound is so annoying to me that I just might put the cats back on to get rid of that sound. The Borla TD was nice how it was, but I wish it was a tad louder. The cat pipes gave me the sound I wanted... but with that unwanted side-effect.

My girl was next to me on the expressway in her G35 and definitely noticed that the sound was different... she didn't like it that much, but mentioned that she could hear a "swish of air" that wasn't there before. Before anyone screams "exhaust leak!" ... well, I did have one and took care of it in the past. Had the car on the lift 4-5 times after the exhaust leak to check, double-check, triple-check ,etc, and nothing. So far so good. But that tingy, raspy sound is driving me nuts!

sith,

you're not the only one with the cel...mine came on 30 miles after the install...then went away for a week or two then came back on last night...who knows...

sound wise...it takes a little getting used to...it sounds like *** when its cold but when it gets hot most the raspiness goes away...i like it because it is louder then stock and sounds good under normal driving conditions
