Default HR stock exhaust rattle/raspy sound

Is it me or does my stock 07 exhaust have rattles past 3k? Below 3k it sounds nice and deep, but after that, especially at WOT, there seem to be some kind of rattle/raspy sound... Not sure which one but it sounds metallic... Was wondering if this is normal for everyone, or did the exhaust installer mess up when they put my stock exhaust back? Btw, there is a part of the exhaust that is a black metal piece, not sure if it's the gasket or heat shield... He didnt put it on because he couldnt find screws for them. What's the purpose of it and is it ok if it doesnt go back on?

I can't say about the heat shield but I do know the G37 exhausts are having a similar problem.

Parts inside the G37 muffler are comming apart or somehow getting lose and making a nasty sound.

Try banging on your muffler to see if there are any lose parts in it.

I tried kicking the muffler, doesnt seem like anything is loose.

The sound im getting is like a buzz/metallic sound, and is identical to the one in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roVSLwGtUrk @ 0:29

edit: exactly identical as this clip of G37 exhaust rattle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beNjYlBrO4w

Anyone else getting this on their stock 07 exhausts? I wonder if dealers can replace them for free since some G37 drivers got it replaced under warranty..

If its really comming from the muffler, you should be able to get it replaced for free at the dealership.

Note the 3 important, conditional words.
If, Should and Dealership.

Best of luck at the dealership.

I must say this will be interesting to see if the same problem is in the Z muffler too.

So you had a different exhaust installed, and you put stock back on?

Yah... Could it be possible that the guy who installed it back on messed up?

Did anything get inside stock exhaust while it was around not installed? Maybe that noise is a chipmunk screaming to be let out.

I think my OEM exhaust is falling apart inside the muffler too. I cannot hear anything loose when kicking it, but its become VERY raspy mid-heavy accel.
