Default Repainting or possibly polishing oem muffler

Some of the factory paint has scratched off. I did search this topic and from my understanding the oem muffler is steel. not aluminum or stainless. But the area on my muffler where the paint has peeled has not begun to rust. The exposed area has been there for over a month. I would love to be able to polish the muffler. Anyway to strip the paint, polish, and protect the part from rust? Thanks for the feedback.

yep, just repaint it with some flat black bbq grill paint. If you try to polish it, it will look like crap because the cannister has spot welds all over it and it will look like they are dents
