Ya check my join date. I know all about this community and how threads turn 180 degrees...just sucks when you have a legitimate question and others jump in and hijack it. Oh well

its cause no one knows which design is best....would help if you'd buy one of each and cut them in half. and install them all in 5 or 6 different locations each (one at a time) and make 3 dyno runs for each configuration.

I have a sneaking suspicion that placement is more important than the x itself...or at least just as. (basing this on Motordyne's research.)

There I just gave you an answer, so stop bitching about the hijack. sorry I hijack often due to my loose associations...and brain that thinks way too much....ideas are everywhere.

I've read on other perfprmance forums (mostly vette & mustang) that the further back you can integrate an x-pipe the better - for scavanging, pulse wave synch, etc = more hp.

Certainly makes me wish I had my very own dyno....and a welder...and lots of money.

interesting b/c Motordyne said w/ the Y pipe, the closer to the engine that the Y occured, the more power IIRC

You have to remember that every engine is different.

y-pipe = single exhaust
x-pipe = dual exhaust

apples and oranges from an exhaust velocity, pulse wave, scavaging perspective.

yes...not sure how your reply applies to quoted text....I'd be dyno'ing MY engine.....

yes I know x=dual, y= single.

Exhaust flow is math/science. I brought up dyno proof on the cars in question. fluid dynamics apply in both singles and duals.

was only throwing up a separate point from yours regarding when the exhausts meet...not apples to oranges...red apples to yellow apples maybe.

Aright back on topic...no bishing, I just had to crack the whip and remind you guys of the topic.

Make me wish I had all of those resources at my expense...but I have a feeling Tony does and has optimized the merge point and design.

I was also intrigued when he maintained that what happens AFTER the merge isnt really important, (x vs y) at least in our case, just where it merges. Make me want to hack up my intense power y and move the collector up and fab in a 3 inch pipe after that.

Makes sense to me that this would be the case...as long as there are no significant restrictions after the merge it shouldn't matter (basing this on my hairbrained thoeries). I also want to believe that the same is true for a TD setup.

Thats the way I comprehended Tony saying it. After the merge no significant power gains over dual system...but that one will be offered for sound and looks.

For all intensive purposes a well formed single will give the same power as a dual. I'd rather sacrifice 1-2 hp for thirty pounds. Just me tho.

I'm on the side of "single looks silly"... I'm **** about symmetry...single exhaust doesn't work for me.

Gothchick, if your watching this thread. How long is that xpipe section you built?

I will never put a single can on my z. When i said single I meant single into a dual tipped muffler. Stock style.

It goes from the flexpipes to the resonators... About 11"~12" I think.
