So yeah, trying to work out the details in a Y-pipe cut out. Planning on using a QTP system. Im thinking the stock Y-pipe under the heat shield is round? so it can be put into place there (also length of the section after it has met). Was also curious on clearance to the left and the right of y-pipe for the auxiliary exit.

Basically was just wondering if anyone has done this in the past before i spend a bunch of time measuring for clearance and chopping up a Y-pipe.

If all goes well, it shouldn't be more than a $150 project.

That will certainly make a fun project to do. You will have the room to do it, but in any case, you will have to get under the car to see how to fit your parts together.

Yeah. Thats what im thinking. What im most curious about is what the stock Y-pipe looks like under the heat shield.

Its a 2.5" tube.

The stock y pipe (after the merge collector) is a 2.5" diameter exhaust tube.

I was going to get it, but I have other things to take care of before getting back into modding the Z again.

If I were to do it myself, though, I'd make sure it's a straight shot unlike the guy's (quoted his thread above) who has it slightly off, causing the exhaust gases to bend around a little after entering the y-pipe.

Personally, I'm weary of placing the cutout anywhere that's not directly in line with the exhaust flow (I'm not sure if that's even a problem). I also don't like having a cutout directing exhaust to just one side of the car (up, down, left, right).

Also, here's a picture from underneath the car, which may help you get an idea. See attached.

I saw that thread and tried to buy it but guy wanted to sell locally. Basically im just looking for a cheap way to make a little noise that i can turn off and on. I had test pipes with an X02 and highway drone was close to unbearable.

So im thinking that i can just pick up a 2.5 inch cut out and pull the heat shield of my Y-pipe and weld it right in. $125 for the cut out and $20-30 for welding. Easy, cheap, and will give me a little volume back (i enjoyed the previous exhaust except for on the highway).

go single resonated jic with high flow cats and use the silencer. sounds great but even better when you pull the silencer out.
