Default Question about stock exhaust.

A friend of mine recently got a Porsche Cayman and had removed some type of "ring" on the exhaust to make it louder. From how he described it, it was a pretty small part. He said that he thought it was possible to do this for the z and g35 as well. Does anybody have any idea what he did/what he is talking about? Hope this isn't a nub question. Flame suit on.

No “ring” on the 350Z but you can drill some holes in the muffler.

I would drill a few into the cats, mid pipe and y pipe as well, for maximum effect.

^ I love the caustic sarcasm of this forum.

OP - are you referring to some sort of restriction orifice in the Cayman exhaust? Never heard of it...

Don't think so. Figured it out though.
This is the Cayman exhaust:

And you can take off that ring clamp thing at the top to get a stronger sound. Definitely no such thing on the z.

Seems that removing that ring just creates an exhaust leak.

OK, so you can take the clamp off that equalizer pipe but the pipes are still slip fit together. That alone won't change the sound.

I don't think they are slip fit together. It is definitely louder. I heard the difference myself.
