Talking Injen intake question!

Hi im fairly new to this site and have just purchased an 03 track model. It already has the K&N drop in filter. The person i purchased it from gave me a full injen intake and from the look of the instructions it runs all the way down to almost in front of my rad. I have read the forums about intakes and most people said drop in K&N is the way to go, i quess my question would be should i go through the effort to get the injen installed or leave it as is with the K&N drop in?

for an '03 track model: i would install the injen intake, but instead of the full CAI installation, "cut" your intake by just attaching the cone filter (instead of the entire tube that runs down to the bottem, since u run a risk of sucking in water).

imo; i think this will be better than just the K & N filter

will i make much of a hp gain though, injen shows torque and horsepower with the whole system and it doesn't look to bad. The site is www.injen.com.

^ never base you hp "gains" from the manufacture of that product as they typically are bull. you will get maybe 1-2whp from the intake when its cool (in Short-ram mode) and not heat-soaked. the best intake out there would be the '06+ stock air box or the Stillen intake. I had an Injen sp1986 and loved it even though i could feel the heat soak after being in traffic for a while in the texas heat, now im running a JWT pop just because i needed some quick cash to get my drop

Well the one i have is the full one that sits in front of the rad so it shouldnt get any heat from the engine but will it fet wet in the rain being that low, and would i loss power running through that extra tubbing?

thank you! finally a newb (relative to this forum) that understands . Would you happen to know what version of the Injen intake you have....the sp1986 had the MAF sensor on the actual injen tubing while the previous model used the stock MAF housing. the rain isn't much of an issue unless the filter is submerged in water but power loss/lag will affect running a Cold Air Intake as opposed to the Short-Ram Intake....minimal but in intake terms it was enough for me to opt for the SRi version.

I have the older one were the stock MAF is used, so what your telling me is that i will get better gains through the shorter version?

i dont think you understand...

short tube = more power / hotter air

long tube = arguably less power / colder air

should i get a heat blocker or anything, why would injen design such a long intake if you loss power?

I have heard the K&N drop in is the best over the injen?

heat shield is a + i guess.. im not using one, i dont think it makes a huge difference.

power gains from an intake are minimal anyway.... BUT.. in theory; the longer the tube, and the more it bends, you supposedly lose power through this longer "air sucking process"

^ +1, with the SRi you have heat soak but it's been tested before and its literally till you hit 30-40mph and aren't huge losses. The best aftermarket intake would be the Stillen as the filter is enclosed in a box (like stock) other than that the '06+ would be the best.

Actually the short tube provides more HP
The long tube more TQ

It all has to due with the way the air moves through the piping.
