Default Another TurboXS Cat-back thread...

I just finished installing this exhaust on my DD -- 2003 Touring.

Like others have described, the tone of this exhaust is 'similar' to stock but much louder. Grunty and low beneath 1800 rpm and really ramps up the decibels above that.

I am running stock cats, stock intake.

I do have to point out two caveats I came across with this exhaust...
1. Where the mid-pipe meets the muffler assembly now becomes your lowest point on the suspension for the rear half. I have huge speed bumps where I work so your concerns may vary.
2. I've noticed on other user pictures of this exhaust installed it looked like the drivers side exhaust tip sits lower than the passenger side...
This is also true for my exhaust.
I have pictures of both issues so future buyers can judge for themselves.

Installation was a breeze. (45min) Having doused my stock exhaust with penetrating oil the evening before, the nuts released from their 6 year old positions with ease. I installed the muffler assembly first, Y-pipe second and mid-pipe last. Tightened everything from the front back, then again to make certain.

For the price Z-1 Performance has it, I can't be happier with this mod. If this was a few hundred more, the crooked tips would have driven me insane. I plan on lowering the Passenger side exhaust hanger about 1/4 inch and this should bring the tips inline.

CLIFFS: Easy 45minute install, tips are crooked, rear flange sits low -- still a great value, regardless.

Thanks for the review. Ive been looking at getting this exhaust for awhile now for the price you cant beat it. Although I've read that if you get the TurboXS test pipes fitment is alittle off.

I do have a question though, when your cruising can you hear it pretty well in the cabin ?

Thanks,
Orlean

Im sure if you took it to a muffler shop they could maybe bend some hangers and adjust the tips until they are even.

I have to give it a few days before I can accurately answer that, OrleanZ33. I literally just got finished. Also, some exhausts can get louder as they 'break' in (IME this is true for glasspacks)... So, any response I have, might change in the coming months.

Thanks for the 'tip' I'm going to attempt spacing down the bracket that the rubber hanger is on first... If that effort proves fruitless, I'll go your suggested route.

Yeah Im sure that it wouldnt be a huge thing. I think that exhaust sounds better than most 1000$ exhausts. Nice purchase.

Just bought a used one today, I'm going to get it installed this weekend.

Quick question, I've read that they come with silencers, how can you tell if the silencers are still installed?

Hey guys ive been rolling with the turboxs exhaust for the past 2 weeks and i prefer the silencers on only cause i travel 45 minutes to school everyday. I think the sound is awesome without the silencers, there is no drone unless your below 2k rpms. My tips were perfect, but im still having trouble with the midpipe hanging too low and hitting my cross bar. Overall, excellent exhaust for the money.

Mine just came in today from Z1, I can't wait to install it. Just waiting on one day warm enough.

Also how do I remove the silencers? I removed the little screw and nut but it doesn't budge.

I had Zero issues with the mid-pipe hitting the crossmember. When I tightened the Mid-pipe to Y-pipe (doughnut), I held the mid-pipe Up, torqued to roughly 75% then torqued the rear flange to Muffler assembly. Got that end about 75% torqued then came back to the center flange, finished torquing center and then the rear. I can take a picture if anyone wants to see but I have over an inch, probably closer to two inches of clearance at the crossmember.

Also, crusing with zero acceleration, just maintaining speed, there is very little droning.
65mph in 6th there is slight drone, but hardly any. If you have noisy tires, you probably wouldn't notice.

Get some pliars or channel-locks and grip that center pipe. It will come out if you rotate the silencer while pulling out. It shouldn't take much force.

Well I got one out finally using the pliars but the left one won't budge at all even after soaking all night in PB Blaster. Anything else I can try?

In this thread, a few guys talk about drone, but none mention specifically if they are using test pipes or HFCs.

Other than getting a slide hammer with a hook end, you might just need someone to assist you.
