Default K&N Air Intake

Is there a big difference on using the K&N filter (RF-1037) using the factory tubing, compared with the full K&N kit (57-6013). The filter it self is about $60 and the full kit is about $300... does the tubing makes a big big difference??? thanks

Yes. With the (RF-1037) you have no venturi ring.
Now that being said, what year Z. If 06 Just get the 33-2031-2 Drop in.

i know this may be a silly question but the K&N is around $300 and the pop charger around $100... I know the pop may be easier to install and will make a louder noise.. and will make about 2 less HP than the K&N... Is it worth to spend the $300 on a K&N been that said???

pst: correct me on the numbers if im wrong thanks =)

OR if <06, buy an 06 airbox off the classifieds for $50 and get the drop in and save $$$!!!

Unless you wan to spend $$$ for the looks.

OR buy a used popcharger for the same price as an 06 airbox, and save even more money!!

The 06 OEM box looks just exactly the same as the others.

Honestly though, between the two aftermarket ones, NEITHER are going to flower colder air then the OEM box, or even as cold. So to answer your question, buy the pop charger. It and the K&N are basically going to be for looks. So you have to ask yourself which you care more about, looks or effectiveness.

So for best price and OK looks, go with the pop charger.

For best performance, 2006 airbox.

For bling, but big $$$ and no gains over 06 box, go with the K&N.

Do a search. There are a million thread on this topic!!

2003-2006 airboxes and tubes are exactly alike!!! The only difference is the venturi ring on the INSIDE of the 2006 air boxes.

SOOOOO........you ONLY need the airbox form a 2006. Then go to your local autoparts store and buy a K&N factory replacement filter for a 2003-2006 Z (again, they are all the same!!!) and you'll be good to go. This is the most effective set up for NA gains. Total will set you back a litlte less then $100 for a used airbox and a new filter.

The popcharger does make more of a "growl" but offers little to no gains due mainly to the hot air being sucked in from under the hood. And in city traffic you are more then likely loosing power due to heat soak.

So again.......... search aorund, you will find all your answers!!!!!!!!

+1

The only reason you would really want to run anything other then an OEM airbox, is if you are FI. Then you get to the point where you could be flowing more air then the OEM box can allow, so you need something that flows more, but you sacrafice by allowing more warm air in.

That's the ONLY reason i have a poop charger.

cold air > ability for more flow when you don't need the extra flowing filter.
