Well I figured that a lot of people would benefit from this thread so I decided to post it up a little early with pictures etc. To give a little background information I have a 2003 Nissan 350z with Borla Cat back exhaust, Z1 Plenum Spacer, and K&N Typhoon intake. The car is has a six speed transmission and 20 inch volk racing wheels.
I recently purchased JVT racing headers and test pipes [resonated : )...] You can look below at the pictures. The cost was 349.99 off of ebay for both headers and test pipes shipped. While many people stray away from cheap parts I figured I'd take the test as not many people give before and after dyno's of headers or test pipes or both..
The installation will be performed on wednesday for 250 dollars. Yes 250 dollars for both headers and test pipe installation...Also it will be 300 as he is giving me a dyno on a dynojet so that is another 50 dollars that I thought was well worth it. The baseline will be with intake plenum spacer and catback...The afterward dyno will be with the new parts installed. I will be posting the results as soon as I get them. This is just a little teaser so stay tuned to see if my 350z gains or loses any horsepower.
Oh and lol that pic is before I installed the Borla exhaust and uninstalled the tow hitch lol.

Adding the numbers and dyno sheet so new lookers don't have to read through the entire post. Baseline numbers were 232hp 217tq...new numbers are 249hp and 233 tq....so a 17hp gain and 16 tq gain.

Ya I agree it will be very interesting. Yes a baseline dyno will be with just what I have on the car right now which is the intake plenum spacer and catback. Then after they throw on the headers and test pipes he is gonna do another one. I was gonna have the headers heat rapped but apparently there is a possibility that they will crack so we decided against that.

It's coming tomorrow no delay. I am dropping the car off at 4 oclock today and they are performing the baseline dyno in the morning and then installing the parts and dynoing it afterwards..It will be done by noon. They said it takes them 2 hours to do headers. I guess they do it all the time and have some tricks or something to make it easier.

Ya I totally figured this would answer that open ended question that seems to be floating around the 350z car community which is whether cheaper headers and test pipes give you any gains. I am having a hard time waiting until tomorrow to get the results.
I wish that I could do a baseline dyno..then a dyno with just test pipes...and then one with just headers...then one with both...but that would be quite the hastle and I bet that the shop would hate me for asking for that lol.

I don't have a scanner but I have the baseline dyno as of now. I baselined at 233 horsepower and 218 torque. Does this sound about right? Guy said something about my 20 inch wheels mite take a couple hp too. I will try to get it scanned...but the hp curve starts out at 60 at 1.5 rpms then 130 at 3.25 rpms....then at 5.0 rpms its 200...and I reach my peak at 6400 rpms where it dropss..best I can do right now for description of dyno. (x1000)
Also I have a question. The dyno was done in 3rd gear. Does the gear that the dyno is done in have any effect on anything?

^no resonators, but depending on which exhaust u have you wont have too much rasp if any. Reason i got em is cuz after driving my friend's Z (same year and pretty much the same mods) his topend just rapes mine. And the only thing he has that i don't is the longtube headers. I didn't want ebay headers, but there the only ones that make longtubes at the moment. And buying shorty headers isn't worth it for me.

dang sweet deal. Ya I bet they are better than shorter headers w/ test pipes.
I'm going 100 shot nitrous next week. I done f'ing around with n/a mods. I just wanted to have the low growl Z's with full exhaust and intake have.

wow those look awesome..there's no bends in the pipes really at all. I already regret what I bought haha...We'll see by the dyno tomorow...although I've read that it takes time for most of the hp gains to become evident..ecu relearning etc..
Someone should comment on my numbers though..233 hp seems low to me from what I have read for intake exhaust and spacer..correct me if I am wrong.

If your car is a the non-revup like 03 and 04 than its not. I think stock was 235whp your right there.
I have plenum spacer, test pipes, 3" top speed exhaust, pulleys, JWT intake, advanced timing 2 degrees thru the Nissan consult.. on an 03 and made 263whp and dont remember the torque.. Its been about 6 months or so.
And TopSpeed Y pipe. So the only thing I didnt have was headers.
