This vid is the best example I've seen that shows the hiss along with a fix. Watch at :38 for hiss and again at 1:13 for after with Magnaflow X-Pipe installed.

Yup test pipes. I just installed mine last week and I get a hiss (I prefer to think of it as a wistle) after 3k up to redline. I don't experience this sound below 3k or when decelerating. Personally, I like the sound from inside the car.

There are 2 types of X pipes, can anyone clarify which one is the correct one?

TRU-X CROSSOVER

OR

TRU-X PIPE

I have straight thru pipes, hissing when rpm lower. My mech searched for 1 hour + under the car and found no leak. Think its normal.

My exhaust has a bees in the can rasp to it sometimes when it's cold. I've come to realize that it goes away once the materials expand and the tiny leaks close up. It's fairly normal.

Thanks Guys!! I installed the magnaflow x-pipe showed above and I would say that it has eliminated 90% of both the hissing/rattle snake sound of deceleration and the rasp on accelleration!

This mod is definitely worth it! And I can only hear the remaining 10% sound when in a quiet and echoey environment like an underground carpark.

Forgot to mention sound!

Sound wise it has changed the tone dratically!!! With all the rasp in the exhaust previously, it sounded really like a rice can!!! Now the sound is deep and slightly burbly like what a 3.5 V6 should sound like!!!

It's almost as good as hearing a women moan to organasm!!! LOL

That was quick. Did you have the X-pipe overnighted to you or something?

Haha. Nah, I actually sourced it from a local supplier that had it in stock!

Highly recommend to have this done!

Hissing happens when you have a sudden change in diameter with test pipes or HFC. I used to have it too. Fixed it with a 2.5'' HFC to a 2.5'' Y pipe with a resonator and 3'' outlet into a 3'' exhaust. Only thing left is a header with a 2.5'' collector outlet.

Yea mine made this horrible hissing noise after i installed test pipes too (and no it wasnt an air leak). I hated it so much i took the test pipes back off and sold them.

I have the magnaflow too and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty(salt in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here. magnaflow 15948, or you can try one of the vendors.

Does anybody have this problem when accelerating and decelerating?
check all the fittings of the pipes and make sure you don't have a leak. i have a leak with my bassani where the x pipe and midpipe is brought together. look for black crap around those areas. it's a sign your car is blowing out exhaust there.

I have the Bassani TD Catback and bolted up some testpipes and when I rev it up and let off I can hear the little his noise coming from the X-Pipe area right after the testpipes, There is a fair amount of rasp on start-up but after a short amount of driving it goes away...I guess the hissing doesnt really bother me all that much because it only sounds like that when I rev it up and the engine decels

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 15948. Also some of the forum sponsors selling magnaflow usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
