A HFC is a High Flow Catalytic Converter. A cat helps convert the poisons coming from your tailpipe into less harmful chemicals. A cat converts Nitrogen Oxide into Nitrogen gas and oxygen. It converts Carbon Monoxide into Carbon dioxide (the same stuff you exhale and plants photosynthesize back to O2). Finally, the cat acts as a system to oxidize (or burn) any unburned hydrocarbons converting them into CO2 (Carbon dioxide again) and water vapor.

A resonated test pipe simply connects your engine to the rest of your exhaust system and tries to quiet it down some in the process.

Does that sound like "a resonated TP does the same for less $$"? A cat is a very complex (and expensive) piece of chemical engineering. A test pipe is, well, a pipe.

FWIW, I think that anyone that puts test pipes on anything but a dedicated race car is being socially irresponsible. Catalytic converters are there for a reason, they drastically reduce the poisons your car is emitting into our air. Think of it this way... How would you like it if I came to your house and pumped it full of Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen oxide, and hydrocarbons?

Go with a HFC. You can get increased performance without the huge pollution hit that you would get with test pipes.

None of my high-HP motorcycles ever came with Cat. Converters on it There are alot of other things that pollute the air way worse than taking Cats off of a street car....I am personally going with TPs because I dont wanna spend the money on HFCs

It's possible to rationalize anything.

well if this helps your decision if you go hfc over tp or what ever way you go there only be a couple hp different but nothing to really feel on the butt dyno.

If 1 or 2hp is worth it to you then get TP. I switched from TP to HFC cause it smells like fuel all the time and I don't like the raspy sound when its cold.

well from my experiance is with resonated tp and depend on the exhaust you can almost have no rasp! and our cars kinda run a tad rich from the factor so if you gotten a tune it would of been livable for you i guess.

I don't care what you say. I love wreaking of raw fuel and having people ask me if there is something wrong with my car...Let's people know I am a hardcore racer. The obnoxious rasp is a bonus too...should have come this way from the factory.

Well put indeed. I agree honestly, save the TP's for the track or if your car isn't a DD. Many people dislike the sound of tp's... check youtube videos ultimately however.

The better HFC's will yield you almost as much as tp's anyways, and if your only mod is an exhaust it's not like you're ready to go all 'hardcore' yet anyways heh.

the monetary expenditure is minimal in the scheme of things. You'll have to swap out the tp's for emissions testing as well.

Finally. A catalytic converter versus test pipe discussion.

Our cars run much cleaner than a lot of other POS out there. I recently put resonated pipes on mine and I love it! No rasp...Once or twice rarely, smells only when you sitting still for a while, and the sound and perf. is hard to argue with. To be politically correct, go with HFC if you want.

I like when someone acctually puts some real info in there response instead of just get this or that.

Quite frankly, I would be annoyed if anybody pumped ANYTHING into my house... Get those hoses away from my windows!

Well, maybe a little nitrous oxide wouldn't hurt

... as long as it's sulfur free
