Question JWT Pop Charger...NOISE???

Hey everybody, I just finished putting in my pop charger last evening...and BOY what a difference! I have done the installation correctly, but for some odd reason when I am cruising I would hear a sharp sound coming from my engine bay.

Kind of sounds like a whistle noise which is audible even when I have my windows closed, and no it is not the noise that the pop charger is making when taking in air.

Could someone please clarify what and where this noise is coming from??? Remember it is a sharp whistle type noise that comes on for merely a second or two, but will only happen when I am trying to increase a little speed while cruising (I am not jamming on the gas pedal).

Thanks in advance for the input!

Default POP CHARGER

The noise or whistile as you call it , is the sound of the air being drawn into the intake. Within the stock filter box the air whistle is not audible, but once removed, you will hear the sound, usuallly at a higher RPM like 2500 to 4000. Above 4000 it will go away again.

This is normal for an open system, and is no bid deal.

Have a nice day.

I hope your right, this is not the first time I have installed an intake in my car and have yet to hear such a sound.

While I am parked no matter how much I press the gas I cannot recreate the sound that I would get while riding on the road. Maybe it could be coming from where the stock box meets the little tube in the front end...

All I wanted to do with this thread is to sum up if all those who have pop chargers are having similar effects. If so please speak up so that I know.

Thanks

I modified the stock airbox, and since then i have notice in the midrange some type of distant whistle. I figured it was from what done to the box.

In my case, the whistle sound is definetly different then the sound that vaccum noise that is normally found with CAI. I have had other CAI's in various vehicles and know how they sound. But nothing beats the sound my honda foutrax 250r w/o the airbox lid!!!!

Default Noise?

Additional info:

Up until recently I owned and had installed the POP Charger. I too was little concerned about the whistle at first and until I read a couple of threads explaining the physics of it. It seemed to make sense to me so I didn't give it another thought.

I merely passed on some information that much smarter people before me have noted.

I just recently sold my JWT on this forum along with my stock intact, not because I didnt like the JWT but because I had upgraded to a Nismo CAI.

I have even heard of people replacing the lower part of their CAI back to the JWT filter. Appearently some people have had some problems with vapor lock in the CAI and their engines seized. When they rebuilt they are leaving the Nimso tube intact and installing the JWT filter instead of going back down into the fender, and getting to much water.

Just FYI..
See Ya.

Mine isn't really a whistle, it's sounds a little deeper than stock until 4000 rpm when the noise picks up then at 5000 rpm it just plain screams to redline with a loud Whack when the rev limiter kicks in. I love it. Yours should be fine. Do you have the heat shield on?
