Default Borla Exhaust Rattle

I just installed the Borla TD Exhaust for my 2005 350z. I was wondering if anybody has ideas how I can eliminate a rattle from the exhaust hitting the cross brace in the rear of the car. I have cut notches out the brace but that did not work. The clearance is about three millimeters between the exhaust and the brace, which is obviously not enough space. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've searched the forum but no one has provided any constructive answers.

Did you go to a shop to install it or was it a DIY?

I installed it myself with assistance from a mechanic. I then took it to a shop to try to eliminate the rattle. The mechanic went over the install. The system is installed correctly.

Go to your local hardware store and buy pipe straps like the one below.

Wrap them around just the rubber pieces that connect the exhaust flanges to the car. This eliminates the slack and should give you a few millimeters from the brace.

Hope this helps.

That's a good idea. I'll try that out. Thx!

I had the same problem when I installed mine, the right side pipe would hit the cross brace and cause a rattle. For me loosening all the clamps and adjusting the pipe angles was enough to get plenty of room between the brace and pipe almost 1/2" if i remember correctly, when installed right there is no need for any other modifications.

I have not had any issues with the cross brace, but I had a heck of a time with the aluminum rubber isolator bracket on the passenger side. The support arm would rub up against it and squeak. I ended up cutting off a 1/4" of it.

Thanks 35oZephy the hose clamps worked. Nice! FYI for others that see this post my exhaust was installed correctly and found from my research that this is a common problem.

Glad it worked out!

Yup, i installed my exhaust correctly as well, but as time went by the exhaust would shift itself around.

Weight of pipes, vibration, tightness of bolts...anything can happen, we're talkn' 2-3mm diff. Tightening the rubber connectors kinda keeps the exhaust from shifting in the first place.

It's also a bandaid for a bad install, so make sure everything is tightened correctly the first time around. The straps are just insurance against the elements.

wow, i def wouldn't have cut the cross brace of a car for a simple exhaust rattle.

It takes a bit to get them moved properly but once i had it all aligned i have at least an inch between them.

The first time it did sag and go back to place so when i went to re-adjust it back into place i heated up some of the metal hangers and bent them slightly to hold the exhaust a little bit higher. Simple fix and in almost a year it hasn't moved.
