Default To ART or not to ART...thats the ?

Hey folks it's my first post after reading all the Motordyne ART threads. I actually have a 2003 Infiniti FX35 with the following mods: Z-tube, HKS Panel Filter, Motordyne 5/16 spacer, Stillen Underdrive Pulley, Kakumei Y-Pipe, and HKS Legamax Exhaust with Berk HFCs.

I really don't have a local means of tuning so that brings me to my question. Many folks have reported and shown gains throughout the powerband by switching from HFCs or even testpipes to the ART pipes. Most of the gains have been on tuned cars.

My question is, are the gains on a untuned motor gonna justify me swithing from my Berk HFCs to ART pipes. I also think it will clean up the exhaust tone from what I've read. Any feedback or advice I appreciate.

I know I have a FX, but this site seems to be way more versed on the performance aspects of the VQ.

I think that if you have the cash to spare, you should definitely get the ART Pipes. Honestly, they're amazing. I doubt that having your car tuned prior to their installation will make the gains any less. Given what the ART Pipes are and what they do, it shouldn't matter too much if at all. And a tune afterward would be even more beneficial (and might be worth looking into, eventually, given the number of mods you have on there). And you're also right about the sound - it will definitely give your car a more refined exhaust note. So yeah, my vote is for the ART Pipes if you have the funds.

If you do end up getting them, you should hit up Failsafe Performance here in town - great shop that focuses on the VQ and official Motordyne dealers (and Uprev tuner, should you eventually go that route).

Shout out for a local from Tulsa!

^Ouch. Any chance of running lean as others mentioned? Could be a while before I get a tune.

Yeah, you might be running a bit lean with those mods, but not to the point that it's going to destroy your engine or anything. I it really concerns you, you could find someone with Uprev's Cipher, plug that in and see what AFR you're running and get an idea of your situation.

When I installed my ART Pipes, it leaned it out just a little bit, but not to any significant degree - maybe 0.2 AFR. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

davidv, you think having over 35,000 posts allows you to be an *** hole to the new guy with 3 posts?

he clearly understands this is a 350Z forum and made special note of that in his original post to avoid responses like yours. In a moderated forum you'd be temp banned for that post.

Also based on your sig you have a 370Z, so by your own logic GTFO of this forum, it's for 350Zs b****

If you don't have a tune now and you install them, you will not have any problems. Even if your tuned, it shouldn't be enough difference to damage anything. You would be going from a HFC to the ART pipe, not much of a difference as far as your motor is concerned.

If you don't like them, I bet you could re-sell them.

you've already leaned it out broham. swapping to art pipes won't make much difference as far as your afr goes.

you'll like the low end grunt of the art pipes imo.

Thanks Fellas! ART pipes ordered! I appreciate the "helpful" responses. Look for some Berk HFCs in the classifieds soon!
