Default G35c Intake tube on 350z (hear me out)

So my friend just got a G35 coupe, and ill admit, driving it, I was a little jelous. No i didnt like the interior better, and yes, I still like th way the Z drives (sit lower, litle more "on its toes" performance), but what I really got to me was how good the car sounds from inside. Basically, all your hear is nice engine noise, and alot of the buttery, melodic exhaust note we all know about...from being OUTSIDE the car.

Well browsing the G35 forums, alot of those guys are replacing their stock intakes with our plastic tubes. The only difference is that the G has an upper intake resonator to quiet down the gritty boom from the engine bay. People dont seem to be showing much in the way of gains by using the Z intake tube either. Someone aperently talked to someone at Nissan who said that the G intake coupld possibly give up a little off the line performance, but actually works better at higher speeds than the Z intake.

Now what I one were to get the G intake, and the Crawford plenum. Seems with this combo, you would still make gains over stock AND it would sound better.

Now flame away with your "well get the G35 coupe for crying out loud, its a SPORTS CAR" im just bringing up something. And dont say that sounds means nothing in asports cars....people wouln't be spending $700+ on exhausts that are getting 5hp or so.

So I compliment your car, and get laughed at....

Have you seen the G35C Intake? I doubt it would even fit in a Z, the resonator is enourmous.

Thanks Tfasano, thats the kind of input i was looking for.

How much of the 7hp difference do you think the intake resonator is atributed to?

I thought about giving away my stock tube to one of G35 guys since I got the Nismo CAI, but I held off. I really dont notice any performance gain on the Nismo . The bottom end seems a little less to me. I think I'm going to put the stock airbox/tube back. I think much gain would be had if only somebody can design a ram air set-up to the airbox.

If you are interested in the G35 Stock airbox/airtube I found this on ebay:

If someone wants the "G" tube, I'll give mine away. Though why would you want it?

BTW Brad4rdHay, I'm sorry I laughed, but your post just caught me off guard. It really was funny to me. With that big resonator and heat box, I just couldn't imagine anyone wanting to put that on a "Z" or leaving it on a "G". I appologize.

I put my Z tube on my wife's G and I think it sounds better with it.

I would say it attributes to the majority of the hp difference. I am not aware of any other engine parts that are toned down on the G like the intake. The sound difference alone makes it worth it to me. A must have mod as far as I am concerned.

lowrider, its cool man...i was bracing for an onslaught of flames so I was in a defensive mood.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more it just dosnt make much sense. I mean if it is more than 3-4hp or so, AND i dont think it would make a huge sound difference. Th G just has much better (albie heavier) use of sound insulation, and i think thats prolly 90% of it.
