Default Difference in OEM Intakes

I keep reading about the OEM intake setup being superior to most aftermarket setups and I am thinking about trading in my NISMO intake for an OEM intake pipe with the JWT popcharger installed.

My question is if there is a difference between the '03, '04, '05, and '06 intake pipes? Is any one year's design better than another?

Thanks.

So if I go with the JWT popcharger it won't even matter, right?

i dont see whats so special about a pop charger over a standard filter since thats all it really is, and secondly, even though ive heard but not seen results stating the otherwise, i dont know how an aftermarket intake could be less effective than a stock tube since in the end, they are both pretty much the same thing

I think it has to do with the stock airbox being just that, an airbox that shield hot engine air from the intakes. All other intakes are the same design, a cone filter at the whim of available hot air.

As far as keeping the filter shielded from hot air, my NISMO intake keeps the intake filter below/behind the bumper. However I've read on here from different sources that the NISMO intake has shown proven power loss, but it's been on my car since I purchased it, so I wouldn't know.

No way to swap OEM intakes, and do dyno tests. They do not fit from one year to another. Without definitive testing this is just another "Best intake?" thread.

Mike, common now!

PC filter =

1. larger filter area than almost all alternative, if all
2. Inverted cone shaped front with filter area which is important bc the Z pulls most of its airflow from front bumper via the intake duct. On most "regular" filters, this incoming air simply hits the flat plastic face on the front of the filters, and only air that is diverted correctly around to the sides makes it into the filter.
3. Integrated velocity stack that most a/m short rams dont have
4. Bigger velocity stack, by far, than any other intake out there, including stock 06'.
5. Heatshield included, which many SRI's dont come with. Not better than an enclosed box like stock, but heatsoak is overrated anyway.

Hasn't anyone used their tuners to measure I.A.T's?

Not that i know of.

The "heatsoak" debate has raged for some time now, and the only IAT evidence i have seen has been presented by Tony@Motordyne. IIRC, he placed temp indicators within the intake and bay areas then took the readings while running the engine with hood closed on a dyno.

It has been by far the best heatsoak test performed, however and IMHO, performing such a test with the car on a dyno and not physically moving is close to futile, no matter how many fans you have simulating airflow.

Only 2 ways to truly test, IMHO, are to do exactly what Tony did but place the car on a dyno or rollers in a wind tunnel, or real world drive the car.
