Default Partially stripped O2 bung

So I put my cats back on yesterday for inspection and as I was going to put the driver side O2 sensor in I noticed that the top couple of rings (dont know what theyre really called) in the bung were stripped. I tried to put the sensor in but it kept going in on an angle and then falling out. So then I took one of the cel fix adapters from my test pipe and tried that and it actually went in a little on a slant. I was able to drive it to the inspection place without the cel light coming on and I passed. I'm sure that eventually the sensor will fall out due to vibrations, so I'm wondering if there is anyway I can fix the bung. Would a tap work to rethread it?? If so, is M18-1.5 the correct size for the bung?

thanks

no one??? My CEL light just came on and I just drove in the rain. I hope my sensor didnt get wet. I don't see it dangling from the car.

are the threads missing, or just stripped? The driver side threads on mine are actually missing...my inspection was due last month, and we do smog here too!

If you have enough thread, an M18x1.5 sounds right. Any NAPA or AutoZone will know exactly what you need.

Were you swapping out test pipes for your stock cats for the NJ emissions? I've got Berk HFC's and I don't wanna go through that pain. No Cel Codes so I thought they would never notice...specially since thay are eliminating the mechanical inspection.

Good luck.

Ok, ill give it a try. Thanks.

Yep I swapped them out for inspection, such a pain in the a$$ to do it and on top of that I had to pay a shop $20 to drill out a broken bolt.

Yea I'm going to buy a tap whenever I get new TP's and take the cats off. I just went under the car to try and reposition the sensor because the CEL came on but it didn't work. I hope the damn sensor didn't get damaged when it rained.
