Default 03 350z Touring PPW 6MT 75k Ohio, Finish my Twin Turbo Project

Model: 2003 350z Touring 6MT PPW
Mileage: ~75k (will get an exact mileage when battery is replaced)
VIN: JN1AZ34D23T112605
Location: Dayton, Ohio

I’ve decided it’s time to abandon ship on my 350z :-( This car has been great to me, but my financial situation, and the state of the car (a nearly-complete twin turbo build), and what I need in a car are conflicting with my current lifestyle. Recovering from funding a wedding, on top of the stress and lack of free time of living the startup life just make the money way more important than the thrill right now.

This listing is for the car in it’s current state — working, but not startable — in hopes that someone will come take it off my hands without me needing to put effort into getting it “sale ready”. This has nothing to do with my confidence in the car, I just want to be out of it as soon as reasonably possible.

If I don't get much interest over the next 2 weeks I will be taking some time to get the car started, cleaned, and packaged up. At that point I will be closing this current listing and relisting it at a higher price.

Lets make a deal now, and save me some elbow grease and you some dollars!

Asking Price: $10k firm.

I believe the asking price is extremely reasonable for what you’re getting, and I’m not willing to budge on it. This is below Blue Book value for a stock 03 350z in any condition (I would rate this one in very good condition).

(I don't intend to suggest the mods raise the value, I'm just suggesting that this price would still be fair if I reverted it to stock and parted out everything aftermarket)

Details on Condition

The car was in complete mechanical working condition and served as a weekend driver before I began the twin turbo project. It was garage kept while being driven, and hasn’t seen a winter since I purchased it in 2006. The car passed a compression test before the first wrench was turned to start the build. It was never tracked (:-(). The only mechanical issues that I was aware of was a sticking 5th gear, which is a commonly occurring problem on the first run of this transmission. 5th gear still works, but is a bit finicky under power.

The body of this car is in very good condition. There are a few regrettable nicks and dings in the paint, but nothing overly concerning. In 2007, I hit a raccoon at about 40mph on the way home one night, which caused a bit of cosmetic damage to the front bumper. It was replaced and re-sprayed by a trusted body shop here in town, and came out looking better than when it went in.

The interior is in excellent condition. There are a few wear marks on the steering wheel and door handles, but nothing unexpected for an 11 year old car. (As of writing, the interior is stripped out in a few places for the ECU and stereo install, but I will be getting that put back together here shortly for pics.)

The A/C was not removed for the install, and should be working just fine.

Build State:

As I stated above, the car is not currently running due to an incomplete turbo build (See below for more info on the Why). I have everything you need to complete the turbo install and have a running twin turbo 350z, except the time (or financial availability to pay someone to finish it for me). Notwithstanding any minor problems (as with any build), The only steps left are to:
  • Complete the re-wiring of the engine harness. There’s really no challenge here, just making sure you route it correctly and double-check all of the important hookups.
  • Complete the installation of the fuel lines. The lines are already run from the fuel tank to the engine bay, you just need to connect them with the (upgraded) fuel rails. All of the connectors you should need are included, and are even partially assembled.
  • Re-install the intake manifold.
  • Install the FMIC, and it’s plumbing. All of the plumbing directly on the turbos is already installed (which is the hard part), you’ll just need to connect the pipes which attach to the intercooler to those, and mount the intercooler itself. I believe you also have to file part of the inside of the bumper just to get the fitment right, but I haven’t gotten that far to confirm.
  • Possibly get a new battery. The battery was a bit questionable when I started the install, so I planned to just replace it. I will get it tested to confirm, and update if this is actually not needed.
  • Fix the power steering lines (unless you don’t care to have power steering). I ended up cutting the lines directly connected to the power steering cooler as they were a hassle to get off. I planned to just buy new lines and fab them up myself, but the replacement OEM molded lines are pretty cheap as well.
  • Fill the coolant, and oil.
  • Double check everything related to combustion and turn the key.

This really isn’t a whole lot of work for someone with the time. If you have the tools, I would bet you could get the car running if you dedicated a weekend to it. I just don’t have that time to dedicate

Just to reiterate: You are getting a car with a known-good engine and drivetrain. Everything down to the brake pads were completely and reliably functional before the car was put under the knife.

Vehicle History

I purchased the car used from a local dealer in the spring of 2006. I drove this car as a weekend car and occasional cruiser. I’ve always had a daily driver to take most of the wear off of my fun cars, and this one was no exception. I keep the paint detailed regularly, and it has always been stored in my 2 car garage.

My original plan for the car was to up the fun on a weekend driver, starting out with a mild turbo build on the stock block, then eventually building out the motor for more power.

I began an APS twin turbo build in the winter of 2010. I unfortunately decided to start the build before I had all of the parts on hand (clutch, fuel, some custom fab, and accessories), so I took my time with the build. I was working from home at the time and had plenty of free time to spend on the car, but that quickly changed. I ended up neglecting the build for a good part of 2 years. Earlier this year I decided to spend some time on it and made a lot more progress towards completing it, but the time just disappeared again. At this point, I’m realizing the startup life is not very conducive to what I originally wanted out of this build, so I’m cutting my loses and pulling the plug.

Most of the stock parts (including the exhaust) are currently in storage and are included with the car. I am not willing to turn the car back to stock, or part out any of the aftermarket stuff. If you don’t want the stock parts you don’t have to take them, but that won’t affect the price of the car. I AM willing to part the stock parts after I find a buyer, if that buyer doesn’t want them.

Here are the mods that are currently installed on the car, and are will be included with the purchasing price. At this time I am NOT interested in parting any of these mods. I believe the price on this car is extremely reasonable — The car without the mods would probably sell for this same price, and you’re only a bit of elbow grease and tuning away from having 350-400hp car with low mileage (for the year).

Aftermarket Mods

I will attempt to source the original for-sale thread wherever possible. Everything used was purchased from a member of either my350z.com or g35driver.com. Please bare with me as some of these threads I never actually participated in and made the deal via PM, so they're harder to find.

Aesthetic
  • 35% window tint on the sides, 20% in the back
  • Clear front corner signals

Turbo Related:
  • APS TT tuner kit, Old school water and oil cooled ball bearing turbos (not the new journal turbos). Bought used off of a reputable my350z.com member. There were obvious signs of use, but no play in the shafts, and no visible damage to the props. I replaced or cleaned most of the nuts, bolts, and connectors that were included, but other than a few pieces the kit was complete.
  • APS 3.5” downpipes. Each has 3 ports for front back and sideband O2.
  • Custom 3” true dual exhaust with Tanabe exits.
  • Forged wastegate actuators. w/ 12psi and 7psi springs. (7psi installed. I also have extra grommets and bolts for the covers)
  • AAM Stage 1 Fuel Rail Return System
  • Walbro 255lph custom fitted into 350z fuel bucket (I also have the stock bucket in storage)
  • GTR R35 570cc Injectors (originally had 750cc, these will work better with low boost) (Original FS thread)
  • TurboXS UTech w/ Remote map selector (program multiple tunes and switch between them on the fly).
  • Innovate wideband O2 sensors w/ dual gauges (purchased these open box from a my350z.com vendor, they are pretty much new).

Drivetrain:

Engine & Cooling:
  • NGK 1 step cooler spark plugs (looking up the actual model number, will update)
  • Pathfinder Rear coolant bypass mod.
  • Mishimito Racing radiator
  • Mishimito Silicon coolant hoses
  • Mishimito Oil Sandwich Plate (used for turbo oil lines, has 1 spare bung for a sensor)
  • Deleted oil heater and lines

Entertainment:
  • Infiniti Kappa Reference 2-way components w/tweeters installed into stock kick-panels.
  • Clarion Double DIN DVD head unit (will update with exact model number shortly)

I also have 2 Alpine Type-S 10" subs in custom boxes that fit in the glove box and stock sub locations. I will be selling these seperate from the car, but would be willing to work out a deal for them. Pics coming soon.

Photos

Mods, please bear with me. I know some pics of claimed mods do not have the required username and date on it. Those pics were taken well before I ever dreamed I would be selling the car.

Check out this photobucket url for more photos.

Exterior

Engine Bay

Mishimito radiator. It is in very good condition, lightly used. There are a few bent pins, but no dents or leaks.

Mishimito Coolant Hoses

Interior

*Coming Soon*. I'll be in the garage cleaning the interior up tomorrow, I'll get some shots then.

Under car:

*Coming Soon*. The car is not on stands at the moment, but I will jack it up and get pics of the downpipe and exhaust within the next couple of days.

Here are some pics taken throughout the build. Sorry these don't have my forum name and date on them -- I wouldn't have even dreamed I'd be selling the car when these were taken. You can see the Oil Filter Sandwich Plat, the Clutch and Flywheel, and the Pathfinder coolant bypass in these pics, as well as some more rear shots of the exhaust.

AAM Fuel Rails Return System, and Walboro 255lph custom fit into stock Bucket, before install:

Installed Mishimito Oil Filter Sandwich Plate w/o Oil warmer:

RPS Cyn-R-G Lightweight Flywheel installed:

Just a shot of the workspace. I had the entire 2 car garage taken up by this untill recently, so there was plenty of space to work with. The air compressor and tools were a life saver.

I didn't get a chance to get the interior back together yet, but hopefully that will come tomorrow.

Free bump! Man, I want this. I miss my old z, but I love my TT stealth, but this this has me thinking... I've been considering selling my stealth, and like I said, I miss my Z a bit. I may have to get down and check this out sometime soon.
