Default will an aftermarket y-pipe make a difference?

im running:

megan LTH
invidia n1 catback
stock y-pipe

going to dyno sooner than later (still breaking in clutch)

will an aftermarket y-pipe make much of a difference than the stock one?

no, invest in an 07 hr y pipe, they are proven to gain a bit of power. Motordyne xyz is good too, but you wont find me paying 500 dollars for a y pipe (if they are still that much)

Also, i had the same exact setup, longtubes and invidia n1.. loved the sound but i hated the look of the two fart cans.. I just remember it was loud as crap.

please dont waste $ on HR y pipe!!!! And to answer ur question yes a aftermarket y pipe will help. How much money u trying to spend?

Here is a HR y pipe before and after dyno.. and you can pick these up for 50-100 dollars

no one is owned here. Maybe u should buy a HR y pipe and replace it with ur current then do before and after dynos and see if YOU have the same results. I did this at CIN Motorsports and LOST HP but gained 2tq. So def not owned son. Dont speak about stuff u dont have experience with

The dyno chart that was posted was MY dyno, and yes, it did make a big difference. The first dyno was my G35 coupe 6MT with just a Ztube and Popcharger. the second dyno was with the only addition being an HR y-pipe.

And to answer what is likely your next inquiry, the conditions were actually quite similar a year apart (on the same dyno as well - Dynojet at Keith's Pitstop in Gettysburg, PA).

June 29, 2008 - Popcharger & Ztube:
84.9 deg F - 29.66 in-Hg - 41% humidity - SAE 1.01

July 26, 2009 - Popcharger & Ztube & HR y-pipe:
86.2 deg F - 29.58 in-Hg - 33% humidity - SAE 1.01

I doubt you can get results that close on back to back runs on the same dyno day lol. Also, my best time bone stock was 14.05 @ 102.3mph on a 2.19 60ft. I ran with the intake a week after that and made no difference. But with the addition of the HR y-pipe (even on heavy winter wheels), I went 13.79 @ 103.5mph on an almost identical 2.15 60ft. Sure sounds like it works to me.

Maybe some are misinformed on my post. If I had to choose between aftermarket y and oem hr I'd choose aftermarket bc of Dyno results and collectors on test pipes. If the battle is between DE y pipe and hr them that's a no brainer. I was referring to hR and my AAM y pipe. And the day we Dyno slutted my car was on a Sunday and we were there all day trying out tons of combinations.

keep in mind that the outlet diameter Megan long tube headers and the HR y-pipe will not match up. The outlet on the Megan long tubes are 2.5" while the HR y-pipe is barely over 2". Even a cheap Megan or Nismo y-pipe will match the diameters of the LTH and Invidia. The Nismo/Megan y-pipe has a 2.5" Inlet and a 3" outlet which should mate perfectly to your Invidia if it's 3".

IMO, the HR y-pipe works great with the stock cats since it shares the same diameter but in this case, the OP is using long tube headers. Why attach a straw to a garden hose?

I have megan long tube headers and the collectors are 2.25" and so is my megan Y-pipe. The OEM Y pipe is also 2.25" in the inlets ( I have one in my drive way ).

I will, I have a dyno at the shop I work at, and i will be happy to do a before and after dyno. just because i don't personally own an hr y pipe currently doesn't mean i shoudln't be able to speak about it. The dynograph i provided by the other forum member should be sufficient evidence for you to admit you are wrong. Instead of just telling me I don't know what im talking about. because apperantly calling the hr y pipe useless when it obviously has increased performance gains makes no sense. But if you want a second dynograph to prove you are wrong i will be glad to do so once i get my hands on one locally.

You right, the LTH do have a 2.25" outlet as confirmed by their website, but they claim their y-pipe has a 2.5" inlet.

Only thing I'm disagreeing about is HR being better then aftermarket. Like as stated if u r broke and don't wanna spend over 150$ for a y pipe them YES hr is better. Please compare HR vs AAM or Megan etc.

yea, pa.

I was thinking about grabbing a megan racing y-pipe since they *should* bolt right up to my LTH and work well with the n1...

Just wondering if spending $150+ on it is worth the hassle...
