Default Question on HKS Hi-Power Exhaust

At the moment I have the stock exhaust that comes on the 08 nismos. I like that it is quiet when it is at idle, but also that it opens up a bit when you rev it and gives a nice clean sound. I was thinking about getting the HKS Hi-Power (Duel), mainly for looks. The stock exhaust, besides the tips, isn't that nice imo. My main concern is the noise. I would like it to be relatively quiet at idle, i also don't want it to sound like a super raspy riced out moped when i accelerate. I understand that it will at least be little louder all around compared to the stock exhaust.

I can't seem to get a good idea of what it sounds like from the many clips i've seen, and considering it costs $1600, I would like to before purchasing it. Most of the videos put the camera way to close to the exhaust and it just over powers the mic and makes all the exhausts sound the same.

Any input/thoughs from people who have this exhaust of have heard it would be greatly appreciated.

Either the hks or the nismo. When I had the hks, it was an okay exhaust in terms of volume. Not loud at all, but definetely not stock. Didnt rasp, quiet at idle, and when you get on it, its fairly loud. But when i installed test pipes with it, man, it sounded bad ***. Although, there was rasp with tp.

Your best bet IMHO would be NISMO (aftermarket), or Fujitsubo. Even if you were to mate either with, say, high flow cats or test pipes down the road, they will retain some amount of civility.

+1 on your nismo. It truly does sound the best, especially w some HFC on it.. its ILL.

I have HKS ( replica) and yes it looks cool, but Id gladly trade fro your nismo as the power on the low end is beter and it sounds damn nice.

Be happy you already have a great exhaust. I promise you you will get over the HKS sound REAL QUICK....

Doubt if any two members will agree on what brand sounds the best. Good luck.

Just to clarify, I don’t have the Nismo S-Tune, I just have the stock Exhaust that comes on the Nismo V3s.

I am not the original owner, and the previous owner took really good care of the car, except the exhaust. So it is starting to rust a bit, and it just doesn’t look good to have something in that condition on this car. If it was in perfect condition I’d probably want to continue to use it.

I’m not really interested in “what exhaust sounds the best” I just wanted to get the HKS for the looks, the Fujitsubo is actually my second choice and may be the one I get because of the price. I just want to make sure that either exhaust doesn’t make my car sound like the typical ricer, with the $99 exhaust from walmart.

I understand the "must look good under the car" needs. A quality exhaust such as HKS Hi-Power is stainless steel. A portion is polished. If you put the car on a lift one each year, and polish the exhaust, it will look good after years of use.

Does either the HKS or Motordyne require modification that need to be done by a "professional" (ie cutting / welding). Or is it just unbolt and rebolt the new stuff on. I plan on doing this in my garage. Hopefully I can get the car high enough... I might be able to only get 2-3 feet

no, the hks is just a bolt on, no modifications needed. I took it off and installed my single at my garage too, with just a jack and some stands, no more than 2-3 feet as you said. If you want to go for looks, you want the hks. If you want sound with looks, get test pipes too. Btw, no need to spend 1600 on a new hks, just get a used one for around 700, some are still in near perfect shape.

Don't be such a lowball. You will not get a used HKS tru-dual exhaust for 700 unless it has damages, rust or it is a replica but seller claims that it is the original )))))))))))))). 850-1000 - this is more than fair price for the great condition HKS!

But you can get a new one for 1400 shipped to your door! Just do a little research!

I have the HKS with Berk hi flow cats, no rasp and no drone at freeway speeds. Sounds stock until you jump on it and then your ears have sex with the sound. What kind of clip do you want? I'll record it with my iPhone 4. The clips on youtube suck because they all rev to 8000 rpm's for 10 seconds and end the clip. No idles or drive bys at decent speeds either. PM me if you want.
