Question Injen CAI....

I installed my Injen CAI, yes I disconnected the battery and checked all of the connections to make sure they were good. After driving for a few days I felt like I had lost low end power (torque) and maybe gained very minimum at high end. I am back running with the stock setup and I feel more power. I am wondering if this happened because everything else is stock ie.. exhaust, headers.... Any suggestions

Thanks

Here's a Thought: Technos claims that the ECU tends to overcompensate for intake mods and actually cause a loss in hp. They say that's one of the things they change when they reprogram. There have been other posts on this topic, and a few varied theories and solutions. i'll be putting my intake in this week, and i'm curious to see how it goes.

Thanks for the response. After looking into this and reading other people's ideas I also think that it has to do with the ECU. I have contacted Technosquare, and I will be getting mine reprogrammed. I guess it will be smarter to do this before installing any other bolt-on mod. Plus you can always get the ECU programmed to your setup. My current plans are to install an exhaust, intake, and headers... for now. I just wasn't sure if it was a good idea to put all these on without reprogramming the ECU. Thanks again for the response.

np. Hey, did you read the thread "Injen CIA=missing at idle" ? lots of good input there on this issue, including a link to Technosquare's site, with procedures for ECU learning.

Default i have injen cai, no problems

that's almost the first mod i did was the injen cai and i thought it actually felt better. Did you make sure the MAF sensor or whatever that thing is called is on the same way as it was when you took it off? I thought i felt a difference when i put it in, like it revved easier or something. Maybe try reset your ECU again. Well, let us know if you figure it out, should be of some help to others too.

not true always, but in some cases a CAI can lose low end power. no matter how you go about it, you are sucking the air through a longer tube with more bends, the tradeoff is colder denser air, but sometimes with the longer tube, the engine has to work harder to suck air through; and thus get little or no gains(can lose too) in the low end.

its often the tradeoff for many things, stuff that helps low end hurts high and vice verse because the 2 modes are so different in how they act, helping both is not always possible.

as far as this case, you may notice a loss for a few reasons... Its cold out now, meaning you were already getting some gains just by sucking in cold air at the engine bay. when the car is just started its also not getting engine heat even, meaning the gains might not really show up till your start comparing the performance warmed up.

also in the summer it may help more when the air under the hood is extremely hot due to the sun beating down on the hood and bumper further heating it; you wouldnt have that problem in the winter so much.

After reading everyone's opinions....thanks by the way, I have come up with an idea of my own. I think that the CAI be it whatever brand; (Injen, AEM, NISMO,etc.) is a good setup but maybe not by itself, like with me everything else is stock.but if you add the CAI along with exhaust and/or headers it will get the combined effect. Plus after really looking at it the stock intake is already setup to have the ram air effect all you might have to do is replace the filter with a K&N. Yes I know it doesn't suck in cold air like the others but for now I might just run it like that. I will keep my Injen CAI for when I install my headers and True Cat-Back Exhaust.
