Default mines intake pipe!

please help me...i have seen that cut out in the bumper of mines car, you know the one that shoots air in the intake. anyways its like $800.00 for that peice of ****! $800.00 just for that peice oif carbon fiber....but i plan on doing this myself, probably not carbon fiber but im sure it can be done for half that price. once you have figured out the right shape just cut bumper.. then the hard part would probably be shaping something to fit in the bumper like a pipe, but yo0u cant just use a circular pipe it will look like ****... then the next problem i have is how to keep water from rain or debris from getting in the cutout..any one actually done this, anyone have ideas, or even if you have some kind of tip for me i would appreciate it , cause i might be the first one to actually do this.

Actually, I was thinking of doing, what I think your talking about. (Cutting out a spot on the right side of the top bumper where the stock intake tube sits?) I saw it on one of the concept 350Z (early stage designs) and it was ramair. I asked the body shop that did my wing, and they said they could do it but they would have to remove the bumper, prep and piece the spot they cut out cause its gonna show black, then repaint the whole bumper so its done right. They would have put a mesh grill of some sort to block out any crap.

The owner of the shop said for someone like me it just wouldnt be worth it. He was right, frankly I cant afford to do it. I didnt even bother to ask how much after hearing his explination. I wanted it done with the bumper on the car without repainting the whole thing.

It would look awesome though, plus be functional.

there is a plastic air guide that's attached to the car already... you can use that as a template for an air hole.. you can readily purchase molding resin, and make a male mold of the piece...

its much easier, imho starting from carving foam (3m insulation blue foam is easiest to carve)... shave it down to a trapazoidal shape, coat with bondo... polish down. clear coat it. put mold release. then wrap with several layers of fiberglass. wait for it to dry and then you will have a molded air duct. but be sure your air duct opening is curved and follows the lines of the front bumper and goes from a wide mouth to a smaller channel that leads directly into the stock air box.

Default piping

well easier said than done...but...makes sense though i have no idea where to buy those products... problem that the other guys body shop guy was talking about is covering up the cuts in bumper..he wanted to repaint the whole thing, cant the cuts be "wrapped" with some kind of thin rubber . then fab out some sort of pipe and cover cutout in bumper with grill. my concerns are more or less just cutting the bumper. getting the bumper off should only take an hour or less depending on tools available. i made a drawing check it out we need details now..what kind of material to use...i think we need to ask a pro how to cut a bumper
1. what cutter would you use
2. will it cause stress cracks or spider webbing around cuts

if cutting it is easy without ruining paint i mean.....i will do it! i will figure out a shape and get dimensions and cut. even if it takes me a month to figure out what to use we can do it...and if it works and im not the type to do a half *** job... if i do it it will be perfect...we will all have this mod for almost nothing, just your own work and some cheap products to construct it out of....

sooooooo......lets get to work...anyone have ideas or can talk to a pro about cutting into the bumper?

i was thinking once you make cut in bumper...

1. what kind of stripping could i use or any other ideas that could "wrap" around the actual cut to make it look clean

2. i think some thin sheet metal might work, like the metal used in heating and air cond., for running the first few inches from the inside of the bumper to the littli pipe that already runs through the engine bay.any ideas ( that metal is very flexible)

3. some grill similar to the front grill by stillen could be placed on the inside of the bumper and secured somehow.

4. with a grill in place do you think water can still get in the filter if so we need something to stop water??
