Default How many poeple with aftermarket oiled air filters have problems with the MAF sensor?

I was reading up on people with aftermarket oiled air filters such as K&N drop in filters who have had problems with their MAF sensors. I haven't had any problems with mine in my Z or any of my other Nissan vehicles (Pathfinder & Maxima), but I am curious to see if anyone else has had problems with theirs. I have also cleaned and re-oiled my K&Ns without any problems. Am I just lucky?

I should also ask if you don't have problems with it, what sort of preventative maintenance, if any, do you do to remain problem free?

no prob in four other vehicles...popped one in my Z seems to be good with about 1k on the filter so far..I saw a spike in MPG ,23 mpg, (which is why I buy them , not really for HP) but went back to normal after a day or two, 21/22 mpg...

The oilled air filter is the #1 reason i don't get an aftermarket intake. Check out the oil build up in the tube after several thousand miles, it can't be good for the MAF.

The secret is not to over oil the filter after cleaning. Spray oil on lightly, let sit a while, shake any loose oil off. If none comes, repeat, until just a litlle oil shakes out. Shake out all remnants of loose oil. Install filter.

exactly as posted above.

We have used K&N's on cars with notoriously sensitive MAF's (Subaru) and have never had an issue. 9 times out of 10 in my experience, the problem is people overoiling (ie oiling a filter when it comes out the box -I see that all the time)

That is so true. I had my Nismo CAI for about 1500 miles, checked the MAF tube and found oil build up. Over time I think this will eventually foul up the sensor. Nismo uses K&N I believe. I got scared and put the stock airbox back in.

I had a 'holley power shot' filter for my SS camaro. The 'power shot' filter is basically the same thing as K&N..supposidly flowed better than K&N because of better pleates. Anyway, the MAF sits a lot closer to the filter on the SS than it does on this car and I had no problems, but I know some people did...too much oiling. What I did was after oiling the filter..I used my shop vac to suck up the excess.
