Default Noob needs your help....tanabe exhaust..

I read the "do not post before reading this..." I ran a search, but still not exactly what I need.

SORRY if this has already been answered, BUT

1. ABOUT how much HP will I gain by adding a Tanabe touring exhaust. I love the sound, but want at least a noticeable small performance boost also to justify the purchase...

2. Do most people spend the extra $$ to upgrade pipes also? If so, what sort of performance gain will I feel/experience in general?

3. I heard that it is silly to upgrade an exhaust w/o getting your 350Z "tuned" afterwards. Is this TRUE? If so, what does "tuned" mean and what will it cost me....?

Thanks,
NOOBSAUCE

gzus i can spend hours (i am sure you will prove me wrong..) trying to find the answers to my questions.

lots of people despise the "search" feature because it gives you 60% of what you are looking for if you are lucky...

thanks though for making me feel like an ****. i have many talents...searching forums and working on cars...well...i suck at those apparently...

Looks like someone needs to read the Top 100 Common Questions thread:

Case in point....while the top 100 questions is a novel filled with great info, i just spent 45+ minutes and finally found this:

Q: I got an intake, exhaust, headers, plenum spacer, and/or other mods. Do I need a reflash / tune?

A: Most people *will* benefit from either a reflash or tuning, even if you are lightly modded. THE BEST OPTION IS TO FINISH ALL OF YOUR BOLT-ON MODS BEFORE GETTING TUNED!!

The best way to get a tune is to purchase an engine management system and take it to a reputable tuner. There are several options. The most popular option is the TurboXS UTEC. The UTEC seems to have the most powerful combination of features for the money. The Greddy Emanage Ultimate, for example, is another good option for air/fuel tuning, but it does not have good over timing. Your best bang for your buck when tuning is usually going to be a reflash, but reflashes do not have nearly the customizability as the UTEC.

Great....so my question still stands. F'n a!! Still, I have yet to find info on my other 2 questions. Would it really hurt to just answer my Q's? I race mtb bikes at a high level. I am a regular on mtbr.com. I just answer the f'n questions. I know that the noob can spend all day in the search world. Because I am a regular there and have quite a bit of handy knowledge, I HELP THEM OUT.

Wait...gotta pay "my dues" right....

Thanks DavidV...going to links right now..

Edit... I am back... OK..so..
1. I don't think I will go with test pipes, as the seem to be illegal

2. Sounds like I need to reset the ECU after Tanabe Exhaust install. I guess the term is "reflash".....not sure??

3. Still have no idea how much HP I MIGHT gain from above mentioned exhaust....argh..

1. You won't be able to feel the performance boost in the Tanabe exhaust if it does in fact increase HP. The improvement will be VERY minute.

2. What kind of pipes? The car has pipes everywhere....

3. Tuning basically means going to a tuner, and he makes your car run more efficient. I have to disagree with you. I think it's stupid to get a tune right after an exhaust upgrade. You'll only really benefit from tuning after having your whole system upgraded (header, cats, catback exhaust). Go on Youtube and search for car tuning, you can get a feel for how it works....

Thanks Boba..

"pipes"...haha...sorry. I know so little about this, that I didn't know the proper term. guess it is "test pipes"...you know...the ones that you pay an additional $500 for that attach to new exhaust..

learning along the way....apologies everyone.. been driving 4runners for last 22 years...

gotta defend the op, search function is next to worthless.

to answer his questions,

1.) You will definitely have a performance boost as well as a great upgrade in sound. Don't listen to these jerk-offs that say you get negative horsepower or none at all. bullsh!t. Less restriction=more power unless you do piping that's way to big. Besides, the tanabe will weigh less than the stock. again, less weight=more speed.

2.) I think he obviously means test pipes. Yes, these will give you the MOST noticeable power bump in terms of exhaust mods. Period.

3.) A tune is recalibrating the cars computer to adjust air-fuel ratios, tell the computer that the current setup is 'stock' to get rid of codes, and to allow for precat and aftercat measurements to match so that the car doesn't think the cat is malfunctioning (once you get tp's or hfc's) and won't throw the car into a closed loop. ONLY do a tune after you have done all the breathing mods you are sure you will do. I have headers, test pipes, y-pipe, and exhaust upgrades, and only now would get a tune. Tuning when you aren't finished with 'hardware upgrades' so to speak is a waste. You can def. get a tune after your exhaust if thats all you'll do though, and would be very happy with the results!

hope that helps,
~Ryan

test pipes are not $500, I got brand new pipes for the hr at $275 shipped. don't buy them for $500, vendors on here will sell them for half of that.

This site has been around for a long time, anything you can think of asking undoubtedly someone has already asked it and answered it awhile ago.
