Default Start of my titanium exhaust system

I've been tinkering around with titanium a little more here at work and really just got the feeling of how titanium works and welds. To start out with I am making 2.5" test pipes which will join together later with a 3" y all the way back. Flanges are being water jetted right now so I won't get those in till next week. Each pie is about 15 degrees. The material I used is 16 gauge so it's not quite as light as some pieces I have seen but I will exchange a couple pounds for strength.

The third picture shows a piece I colored by anodizing. I do plan to anodize my test pipes when I am done and I think it will look crazy with the welds.

The last picture shows a 3" piece I welded a few weeks back in raw form. The polished piece was harder to weld due to the arc jumping around

I will have some updates later this week as the Z will be on the lift with test fitting of our stainless version of these pipes.

impressive. you should've copped that rare $9000 ARC complete Ti exhaust w/the separated hanger that bounced between people for $2K cus no one had the ability to weld Ti.

It is extremely difficult compared to typical austinetic stainless steels. I'm no welder, either, but a lot of people think that it's as "simple" as knowing how to tig weld and it's NOT. Even welds that appear to be ok frequently fail with titanium. I'd honestly recommend some minor form of NDE be performed prior to installing a titanium welded part unless your welder is a very experienced expert, (which is highly unlikely, no matter what he says).

My veilside is Full Titanium and i love it, i lucked out when it was damaged because i took it to a company that specialized in titanium (TiFab) and they fixed it for a very reasonable price. Test pipes are coming out great you got skills bro.

In for the final product.

Are you planning to sell the pipes? If so I'm very interested in buying a set to complete my Amuse exhaust.

Must be nice to be able to work with this kind of material.
I would try to customize everything possible in titanium.

Exhaust hands down. Test pipes also.
Headers as a project?
Intake would be dope too. As mentioned ^

Got a bit of time today to make the resonators. My first titanium muffler so it will be better next time I don't have the actual weight yet but I made the exact same muffler out of stainless and it is significantly lighter. I will put it on a scale sometime next week to see actual weight. I'm also messing around with different packing materials so that will also change the overall weight. I made this muffler with a slip fit joint so it can also be used with stainless piping. Enjoy!!

OP - Nice welds, especially for your first time.

I had the Fujitsubo Super Ti, which broke at one point. Titanium welders aren't hard to come by, but definitely are smaller in numbers. I took mine to a race shop that work with titanium quite often and they did it for real cheap.
