If the independent dyno produces 10 hp or more, I may consider buying these. I don't know how much horse power can be gained from the back end after doing testpipes and exhaust but I'm starting to get impressed by what I'm seeing too. Maybe eek out another 5 hp?

Yeah, nice job posting the middle baseline for comparison, that does deserve credit.

The headers/cats thing gets me. Why wouldn't you just put headers, instead of headers/cats? That says to me that you have stillen headers and stillen cats.

There are two types of headers, short headers and long tube headers. Normal short headers are followed by cats and then the exhaust. Long tube headers, like Xerd take out the cats and are then followed by exhaust. Xerd headers are basically headers and testpipes without cats.

You could follow up a short header with test pipes or highflow cats to have a similar effect. From what I read, the claim is these Stillen short headers are followed by stock cats. I wouldn't expect a short header that is followed by cats to produce the kind of power being discussed.

If you want to maximize power, you would want to go headers, no cats or highflow cats and exhaust. Some people have asserted that a loss of back pressure could occur but, I haven't seen that problem. Hope that helps.

FairladyZ -

Here is the answer to your pondering from a previous post (page 4 I beleive)....
<<<<snip>>>>
We are also developing Race Pipes for the 350Z / G35. So, the differentiation was more for internal use than anything. It helps us quickly know which chart we are looking at... header with stock cats or header with racepipes (or NO cats).
<<<<snip>>>>

Regarding A/F Levels associated with Headers:

With the Cats still on the vehicle, the change in A/F levels is so minor that it's not a relevant concern. Since the cats have NOT been removed and the vehicle is stock in every other form, the computer learns the minor changes and corrects itself to compensate- during normal driving patterns. At wide-open throttle, the ECU uses a pre-programmed Fuel Map. If customers have Flashed ECUs and concerns with regards to A/F mixtures, the ECU flash companies (IE: TechnoSquare) should be asked what the effects will be, as they performed the programming. We have no way of knowing or testing each ECU program or possibility.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Default Have a Safe New Year!!!

G'evening Board -

Our 'conversational time' is running short this evening. I'll be away for the rest of the week and will address any relevant questions next week. Thanks very much for all of your inquiry.

Please have safe holidays (for those that have them) and watch out for silly driving. Speaking of ratios - please watch out for B/A Ratios (Blood Alcohol).

Stay 'Tuned'.

Will these pass CARB and visual inspection since they are hidden out of view? Gotta think about that in Ca

Also, I was quoted no more than $200 to install these at a race shop in Lake Forest. They have experience with Zs and g35s

Sounding better all teh time

ok - last few minutes...

Backpressure...HFM - you are correct. The car does seem to like backpressure. That's why our Catback is not a straight-through design - we lost hp with the early designs and scrapped them.

As the headers do not delete the cats, no additional emissions will result. Visually, you might be asked if 'those are aftermarket headers'. We have not subjected them to sniff test, however.

Good Night All!

wow 200 dollars is a smokin deal for install... either his labor rate is WAY lower than normal places in O.C. or the shop is a bit slow right now. I know shops that would sublet installs to him for that price....

You can count me as one... My tech's hate doing header installs only because it's so time intensive.

2FST4U -- do the headers ship with a fully illustrated instructions booklet (e.g. Crawfords)? Would be useful for the DIY or a shop that does not usually cater to Nissan vehicles (e.g. shop down the street).

I'm sorry to ask this because I don't know if it was mentioned and I am not reading 7 pages again, but what is the size of the primaries on the Stillen headers? How about the NISMOs and Crawfords? Thanks.
