Its a pipe shaped like a "Y." Why would one be any better or worse than the other?

You should add Motordyne to your list.

Correct me if im wrong, im a new here but after doing research i found out that DE Y pipe pretty much restricted compare to any other y pipe out there. All y pipe the same ? If so then i dont understand why so many company out there actually paying big bucks to produce and reaseach on different style of y pipe for Z. Have u ever look at other y pipe and compare to stock one? The bend and diameter are different , so are all the y pipe still the same?

Default Y-pipe

It does make a difference in your y-pipe if it constricts flow. Say your cat pipe is a 3 inch pipe and u buy a 2.5 inch y-pipe your gonna have a considerable power loss. Also If you look at the stock y u can notice that the angle of the pipe is higher which cause distorted flow. The Stillen y-pipe has least angle possible to allow it to still bolt right on.... very smooth flow! Other than that your right there is not much difference. I have a 07 Nismo with Berk HFCS, Stillen y-pipe and a NISMO cat back. It sounds really good not too loud. I starts singing around 3500 rpm. Its only loud when you want it to be. I can shift and 4k just buy the sound. The Stillen y-pipe was $230 not too bad for the considerable sound difference. It complement the Berk HFCs perfectly.

I have no experience with a y pipe without flex but I'm sure you don't have to worry about it cracking anything other then the occasional test pipe. Depending on how fast you want it my best advice is either save up and get the best(Motordyne) or look for a used one on the marketplace. I had my AP paired with AAM and MD with res hands down such a smoother sound with MD.

If you dont have headers any y pipe should work fine but if you do have headers get xyz with resonator so its not raspy.

If you are buying a Y pipe to free up power, MOTORDYNE is really your only choice. If you want a Y pipe to say you have a Y pipe, just pick one.

The subject of exhaust volume and exhaust velocity is as old as jesus. Altering either will alter horsepower and torque curves. Will the results be better or worse? The answer is a guess at best.
