Default Stock Nismo exhaust WITH test pipes?

hello boys, i have a couple questions about the whole test pipe issue in combo with the stock nismo exhaust.

1. I realize that there will be a rasp off the exhaust with test pipes.
2. Will the test pipes ruin my stock Nismo exhaust?
3. Anyone here in the past or currently run their stock nismo exhaust? if so do you have a sound clip?
4. How do you get the engine light to go away if you have test pipes installed?

My appologies if these or this topic has already been discussed, i realize there are threads/topics on the normal 350z's and their issues with the stock exhaust with test pipes. I am just unsure if those answers are all the same for the stock Nismo. As much help as i can get the better as i want to avoid ruining my current exhaust system. Thanks gents.

I will say to research YouTube clips until you find an exhaust your willing to fork over money for!

In the mean time and a definite fix to your stock problem is to remove the resonator on the mid-pipe!

I've sone this and this alone is a huge improvement in exhaust note!

I mist mention though of you add anything to this setups i.e. Test pipes/y-pipe it will then sound like butt!

Hope this helps! It's not too loud or too soft it's really just right!

More rambling...

If you want it to be loud without losing the emission pieces! Anything catback is louder than the first option I presented!

Good luck!

This has been covered!

yea it def will be raspy, just like king said youtube some vids although hearing something through your comp may sound very different in person lol. if you like the stock VQ chubaka sound then you would love the set up i have, AAM test pipes, motordyne y-pipe with a resonator to eliminate rasp and nismo s-tune midpipe and muffler. i would post a video but i cant find any lol

+3 on the res removal. If the nismo exhaust on nismos were real nismo exhaust i would say do it.

I recommend test pipes with a support bracket. Also search "non-fouler."

yea i have done some youtubing over the last little while and all the nismo's i find have some sort of aftermarket exhaust with mostly HFC's... my buddy has an s2000, invidia tp and skunk2 exhaust and o my stars is that thing loud!... i can even smell the exhaust is rich with fuel(not sure if i wanna sound like a dirt bike with the muffler chopped off)

so to clarify,

Option 1. Leave the stock exhaust and just cut the rez out on the mid pipe and replace with a piece of pipe.

Option 2. Aftermarket y-pipe, mid-pipe with rez and w.e the flavour of the month is for the muffler?

I'm also having a new midpipe fabbed up with no resonator, it seems to be the best solution for getting a little bit meaner exhaust and everyone that's done it seems to be happy.

Having to deal with a CEL and an installation nightmare is not worth it for test pipes to me. They'll rasp really bad too from what I've read.

David pointed out test pipes with brackets cause of the y-pipe you mate it to sometimes may cause problems/cracking!

The purpose of the support bracket is to support the exhaust system and limit flexing.

This question will only end up with people's opinions. There are a lot of people on here who only run "name brand" exhausts, while others have had pretty good luck with "replica" exhausts. Too many variables in the equation.

Since it seems you received the answer you were looking for that was NISMO specific, I'm gonna move this over to the exhaust section. There you should get some more info. I suggest doing a search as this has been discussed MANY MANY times.

i appreciate the responses as it is helping me in my choices as to what to do in the mean time if i decide to later upgrade to a different exhaust.. thanks boyz much appreciated, and will continue to research and watch vid's.

Funny how everyone wants a loud(er) exhaust, but without any possibly negatives like rasp. About the only thing I could think of are the ART pipes from Motordyne Engineering. Supposedly a test pipe design with no rasp, but you're gonna pay for 'em $$...as compared to a standard test pipe.

Foulers will take care of a check engine light if one were to arise. Really weigh your goals. If you're dead set on more flow/performance, then "rasp" be damned. Get the test pipes. If not, then just stay stock. You'll be happier in the long run

this deffinatly goes to show without realizing what your goal is, you have some give or take on each end ha... i am definatly going to have to keep weighing my options and what it is i am truly going for... i would like a louder exhaust, yes. do i wanna sound like a crap mobile rippen down the st, no. but i also know that when driving on the highway i don't want to have a migrane, which i think by the sounds of it test pipes may give me one. so all in all, 1st i think is chop off the resinator on the mid-pipe and test that out for a bit, and if it's not quite what i am looking for then invest in good quality exhaust.

idealy i would like the power and flow, just without the headach every time i go on a road trip... maybe i should just invest in some earplugs ha.

Trust me, you won't have a headache with test pipes on the interstate. At least I never did while I ran mine. Honestly I HIGHLY doubt you could make a 350 sound like crap without some serious effort. Test pipes will give your current exhaust note a slight push into the more "aggressive" zone without being too extreme. I just installed the Momentum dual w/aam competition y-pipe and test pipes. That's what loud is. Doesn't bother me though. I've always been a fan of a powerful sounding exhaust. Let us know what you do!

that sounds pretty sweet.. i think ill start off with the rez deletion and then maybe go from there and see how that sounds... or risk it and give the test pipes a shot with the stock nismo exhaust and see how that goes. deffinate decision making is in supply ha.

I got some custom made test pipes with a complete stock nismo setup behind it and i dont find it bad. I first put on the nismo cold air and you could hear it. Ones i did test pipes the sound of them overpowered the cold air. Also rasp is only from 2.5 to 3 rpm when its cold. Ones it warms up its barely even noticable.
Also my engine light is not on and this was from april to nov when i put the car away for winter. Its all in the tune honestly. Not sure what you got out there in the west but i got my done in a shop in toronto.
