Installed the Injen CAI (Shortram)
Hello people I installed my CAI this mornring. I decided to go with the Short Ram install instead (for now). the weather here is still quite cool, and Las Vegas has a problem with high water when its rains, and it's been raining quite a bit lately. I'm leaving the country for a few months and by the time I return it should be dry. At that time I'll install the rest to make it a true CAI. Other wise it looks and sounds great. The Butt Dyno can't really tell about the gains, besides I'm still in my break-in period. Take care all and have a Happy and Safe New Year.......db
You know I just retired from 20 years in the Army and as and NCO one of the things that really ticked me off is when someone critizes something and doesn't have the nerve to give you a reason why or how to make it better. Some people come here to learn. Replies like the first one does me no good and I rather you just keep it to yourself......db

im installing my intake, springs, exhaust, grounding kit, and clear corners all this weekend so its gonna be exciting. tought to judge what i'll gain from just the intake, but making statements with no backing like that is just a waste.
Thanks guys, I knew there were good people here..
Jason, it was snowing here. I was out late with a buddy and I had to wake my kids about 3:30 am so they could play in it. A Las Vegas meet would be great. I'm new to the area, but if the other folks here want to do something I will be willin to help. I'm sure we could get some awesome Hotel deals. Let's see.......db

The stocky is a short ram allready, with an inclosed filter(keeping the heat away from filter). Now you have a aluminum intake pipe(which will get hotter, then the stocky) and a exposed filter sucking in more engine heat.. So tell me, how you makeing more power?
And technically it should be no louder then the stock intake. The Z does not have a intake resonator box that baffles the intake sound, like most prodution autos have.
:On a side note:
People with Hondas pay alot of money for a stock setup like we have.Comptech's icebox intake system, does the same thing for honda's that our stock one does( draws air in the inclosed box)

Look at it this way:
The stock intake is already a CAI.
Therefore, you won't be gaining much HP from the "cold air" portion of the mod.
However, the cone air filter possiblyl has more surface area than the stock rectangular one. If so, that would make it easier for the engine to suck the air in. You may have made some gains there. This may also make it easier to hear the intake sound, although the stock one is pretty loud, too.
Furthermore, the stock intake is pretty bland looking, so you now have a shiny, polished intake, which spices up the engine bay.
In the end, all that matters is whether you are happy with the mod, even if you didn't gain any HP at all. Therefore, I say congratulations and enjoy!!

Doesn't the Pop-Charger sit in the same position: and I believe they put out some good gains. And I can tell you that there is a sound difference between the Stock box and the short set-up. Hey guys it's all good. For me, in my mind the short way is what I need for my car right now. When the rain stops I'll extend it. Buy the way 1 or 2 HP is not that deep. I don't Drag or street race.....db
The short ram doesn't sound different from stock? My ***. I just re-bolted my injen intake up in short-ram form, and take my word for it - its a lot louder (and "whistley") than stock.
Yeah. It's 1, 2, maybe 3 horsepower... But it opens up the bottleneck on the induction-end a little bit more, and takes the edge off sacrificing gas milage with all the big exhaust mods we can do to our cars.
I plan on going CAI again, more for the simple sake of having an aftermarket intake than for the actual gains. 6 hp from Injen's intake isn't much, but 6 hp here... 8 or so with test pipes, 9 with the stillen headers, 17 with the injen exhaust... thats about 40 extra ponies at the wheels, right?

Donny............Yes, the pop-charger sits in basically the same position. I am very happy with my pop charger. The main difference with the pop charger and your set up is that the pop charger uses the stock intake tube and comes with a heat shield.
There will always be discussions as to which intake is better. You will do just fine with yours.

Has there been a problem with the Crawford plenum making cars run lean? Has this caused problems? And should not the ECU correct for a larger intake in air and mix the A/F correctly?
