Default Nismo intake and water!?

So I have a Nismo intake on my car from the previous owner and well I have had issues even with a moisture filter on it causeing the MAF to bog my car down (which I have Learn is just a safety feature) but tonight we had bad rain and I believe the MAF caused my SES light to come on. I checked the drain peice on the intake and it's not sopping wet but has some moisture.

My question is what would you do to help, or what are your opinions on the Nismo true cold air, or show I convert it to a short ram?

Thanks

If it were me,and I lived in a area where rain or moisture was a factor,I'd convert to
a short ram.In essence(as has been commented on MANY times),CAI systems do not provide any meaningful HP gains. So what if a Nismo sytem that costs $$$ gives you a
perceived 2 extra hp vs a Popcharger that costs $.Lets get real. Its all about having the "name"CAI.The look, the sound maybe. It keeps the aftermarket guys in business.
Slap on a Popcharger.Maybe add a CF or polished tube. You'll be lookin good.Unload that
Nismo(actually made by AEM)to another guy that wants the status.

Do you have fender liners installed? Does the intake retain the bypass valve (is that what you meant my drain piece)? If so, I don't see how water is getting anywhere near your MAF unless you have an after market hood or faulty weather stripping. You can dip your filter in water and the bypass valve wouldn't let water past.

Find yourself a good JWT Popcharger in the Classified section. Much cheaper (around $130 for a good one), very good sound, and would solve your moisture problems.

EXACTLY!

I've had my Injen CAI on my Z forever and we have monsoon style rains in Houston where everything floods. I have NEVER experienced any issues with moisture or the dreaded "hydrolock."

My air filter is 3" off the ground and I don't get water.

Your maf is probably just dirty and needs to be cleaned.

Water won't get "sucked" into your intake unless the full filter is submerged.
