Unhappy Injen Heatshield

When me and my buddy(a mechanic) installed some parts for my Z this weekend, we really couldnt figure out where to put the heatsheild for the intake. the directions as you know if you have bought one are pretty bad, and the pictures were blurry. If anyone has any pics, i would like to put this thing on, but we stared at the engine for like 10 min and couldnt figure it out. Thx

I think it's only used when you setup the intake as a short ram.

i'll try post a pic later, but the 2 screw holes are way down there. I forgot but i think they are like on top of the stock exhaust manifold. once you try to position the heat shield down there it makes sense since you have to line up the screw holes.
One screw was easy with an extension the other you needed some small hands to get down there.

It's actually pretty simple. (Sorry I am at work now, don't have a camera or the Z here to take a picture.)

Just slide the heat shield down the side of the engine compartment over the top of the exhaust manifold. You will easily see exactly where it goes. Getting the front bolt is no problem. The back one is a real biatch... (hope you have small hands)

Its actually easy to install with the right tool. It goes over the stock heat sheild that covers the manifold/header.

It took me like 10 minutes to put that thing on, only problem was that one of the bolts got stripped and couldn't get it out. After we had it removed it was very easy to put the heat shield on.

damn, sorry i forgot my dig cam at my friends house. If you can wait till the weekend, i'll take a pic then. If not, i'm sure you can figure it out by these posts. I didn't have a problem with mine, but when you install it, make sure it doesn't rub against the AC pipe, some people claim it'll rub while the engine is running and cut through the AC aluminum hose and cause a (freon or whatever that stuff is now) leak.

Is it meant to be used with the CAI setup or just with the short ram?

it doesnt matter it blocks the heat from the exhuast manifold. You could use it with the stock intake if you wanted.

Here you go man, i installed mine right after christmas. I couldn't find it either, so i was going to make a how-to guide and took some pictures

If you need help let me know.

Here is a picture of the stock heatshield (yellow), it is located (if you are facing the engine) to the right of it, you can tell where it is from this picture, to the right is the strut bar. Think of it as a cover for the right header and you'll get the picture. There are two bolts (1 &2):

Bolt 1 (front) again:

Bolt 2 (rear) again:

Take both bolts out, place the Injen heatshield on top of the other one, and reuse the bolts to tighten it back in place. Here is the Injen heatshield in place (yellow):

A better angle of where it is (i took the strut bar out because it was easier for me to put the aluminum part of the intake in place, i don't think it's necessary, but it just made it easier for me):

And one more:

Hope that helps.

A couple tips:
1. If you can remove the bumper, go ahead and do that, it facilitates taking out the ramair duct out as well as installing the coldair portion of the intake.
2. If you DO decide to remove the strut, be careful, it is on tight, i had to twist one turn to put it back on, so i don't know if i have the same rigidness as before.
3. In the installation instructions it mentions to position the MAF sensor UP, mine is not completely up (90 degrees), but i would say more of a 45 degree angle leaning to the right.
