Default K&N drop ins

I'm not looking to start a comparison battle or war of any type, just wanting to know if for the money. I can get them at 50 a piece, are the K&N drop in's worth the money? Also I know it's probably a stupid question but I'm assuming I'll have to buy 2 right? 07 ZR

Yes, you will need two filters. I have them, didn't notice a difference in sound or performance. But I am happy cleaning my own filters and re-oiling them as opposed to just buying new ones. But that's because I drive 120 miles a day and my filters pile up with dirt and grime very fast. Gunked up my OEM filters in no time, decided on buying reusable then and there.

Why buy two, just keep the stocker for the time, what a day it takes to clean and dry the K&N. Maybe I'm just cheap but I've used alot of reusable elements and have never had two for the same vehicle.

Because the 07 and 08 Z's are HR motors with 2 Intakes

Well my biggest thing is I know alot of people say the 07/08 stock box is just great on it's own so I'm just wondering if performance/maintenencewise it honestly makes a difference or is it one of those situations where nothing changes but now I have lifetime airfilter action.

I love mine. I changed my stock filters at about 30k and I couldn't believe how dirty they were and how much crap was in my air boxes!

I felt a slight gain in power but that is more likely due to fresh clean filters compared to how dirty my stock filters were.

I plan on keeping this car for a while so I figured why cheap out? Plus now I will clean them every 10k so I will always have fresh filters.

It's pretty much nothing changes but now you have lifetime filters, which, depending on how often you clean them and how long you keep the car, will pay for themselves. The "no additional HP" shouldn't bring you down tho, unless it was the only reason you would be purchasing the K&N''s.

Well I was debating on that or just getting a short ram intake system. Out here it floods too much for a CAI. Kind of want a better growl out of the engine something deeper, I can't take the whine.

If you want better sound out of the intakes, the drop-ins won't be your solution. You will need an aftermarket intake of some kind. JWT Pop Charger would probably be the cheapest solution to that.

Is it possible to use the original tubing and swap a cone filter on the end? I thought about some JWT's but pricewise i can some injen's for like 20 bucks more, and I've heard about heat issues with the popchargers. I love my HR but the double cost for everything kills my excitement when I shop for parts. Ooo it's 175, but oh that's 03-06 only haha.

Dont make your own. Cheapest solution as was already said is to go JWT. This isn't a civic, so don't cheap out, either do it right or don't do it and wait until you have the funds.
