Default Resonator...Yes or No??

Im wanting to do exhaust on my 06. I dont have a ton of money to spend and I dont really want an ebay one so Im doing a weld in muffler.

Im getting a Flowmaster 80 series ( the one for Camaro's). Ive listened to some Youtube videos and its kind of hard to tell from them, but overall it sounds pretty damn good, especially for the price. My only concern is the resonator, should I leave it in or have it removed? Any one here with personal experience?

Either way I go I could always put it back later or even have it removed later. Its just that its hard for me to get the time to get stuff like this done and I want to do what will give me the best results on Monday when I take it in...

Thanks

Yeah, it will give it a nicer growl while marginally louder. Or you can go ***** deep and cut out the stock one and throw a straight pipe instead

Im looking for the "growl' youre talking about. I dont want it to be obnoxious though. Any idea how loud it would be with just the straight pipe and muffler?

You can always just leave your exhaust untouched and get test pipes. Two of my friends have it done and it gives it that extra kick of a growl

Wow,thanks for that video. I never thought about just removing the res and leaving it stock. I do like the way it sounds stock, I just wanted a little more growl. That might be the way to go.

Yeah the res limit's the exhaust's potential so much it's not even funny lol. If i'm not mistaken you'll notice a tad difference in performance as well

This is cool. Before I spend any unnecessary money,Im going to try this. This is a super cheap way to get a better sound. Im not really looking for any performance gains, just a little sound. This is perfect!!

Yeah then the res delete is perfect for you. But be aware it's pretty much res del or test pipes. Both should add just the same amount of growl, maybe test pipes a little less, but if you do both it'll rasp and drone a lot.
Test pipes - $60 for a good used set, $70 for brand new god speeds I believe.
Res delete - $20-30 for the welding, pipe should be free if you're cool with the welder

If you want good sound for cheap then get a muffler shop to delete the muffler. So really you would remove your stock muffler and a shop will get two pipes to split from your mid pipe flange with the tips still in the stock location, it sounds really good with stock cats but once you get test pipes it becomes wayyy too loud

Eh I personally don't like the muffler delete. Yeah it makes it louder than removing the resonator, but it doesn't have a growl to it after 3500 rpm. It just sounds loud lol
To each his own though

I remember when I first got my test pipes on my exhaust. I wanted to shoot myself, then I got used to the sound.. or my ear drums are now f*cked. One or the other lol

I disagree. I think it sounds pretty good. Thats the problem with videos. A lot of the time its the camera or mic that makes it sound bad. I listened to more on Youtube and I like it.

Leave stock exhaust on. Cut the stock resonator off, fill with pipe. $150 part labor included. Nice sound & costs only $150 if someone else does the work. $20 to $40 if you do it yourself.
