Question Exhaust/Muffler Questions

Hello, I recently bought my Z a couple months ago, it's an 03 Touring Edition and it has the cats removed, although it makes a rattle noise. I took it to a muffler shop and I asked them what it was and they told me it was because my cats.. but I don't think it's that because my friend also has his cats removed and there is no rattle. When I'm driving the rattle only hits around 3.5 to 4 RPM and it sounds like its coming from the middle of my exhaust area..

Any ideas?

Another question... I want to make the muffler a little deeper and louder.. Any ideas of what kind of muffler I should buy? Something around 200-300 dollars!

( Not sure if I posted this in the right spot )

Thanks !

Something called "peformance?"

OP, like oldschool350z said, it's most likely the heat shield. Search the maintenance section, there have been a few threads about it recently.

I know why someone would. In Nys you will not pass inspection without them thus to me its pointless.

Fair enough. It's illegal here as well, but we don't have to pass emission tests

If the car did not have catalytic converters, it is illegal for a dealership to sell unless it stated that the car is for "Off-Road Use Only". Was that declared during the sale? If you want the cats back, you could always go back to the dealership and let them know that there were no catalytic converters and the car wasn't sold as described -- that is unless it was sold as an "Off-Road Use Only".

If you're not looking to redo the exhaust just go buy any aftermarket muffler and have a muffler shop put it on for 50 bucks. Will make it deeper. If you want louder just drill some holes in it or do a straight muffler delete.
